CMC or CCC?

I was in the Caravan & Motorhome club for years and then resigned, mainly because I was either wilding here in Scotland or going to Mainland Europe.

Now plans will include Engerland, including points close to Poole and Portsmouth for Brittany ferries but elsewhere besides.

I'll likely only use the small certified sites.

I understand CCC give over 60s discount and allow members "service only stops" at some big sites, so I'm erring to joining them.

Interested in other views though.

I looked into both a few years ago. We went for CCC. The only reason that I can remember is that I thought the M in CMC was purely a marketing move as they didn't seem to have any genuine interest in or understanding of motorhomes and those that use them.
Like you, we only occasionally use CSs but have twice stayed at club sites when we first joined. Once in Norwich, as it was close enough to the centre (and a nice small site). Once in Scone to use the laundry facilities, never again.

The C&cc weekend meets and the large number of temporary holiday sites, some of which can be weeks long are one reason I keep up my membership.
The breakdown service called arrival and operated by RAC is another as it has no age, weight or size limits.

CCC wins it handsown.
They have grass only pitches on almost all their sites, they’re cheaper, they do great deals on grass only pitches most summers, but you have to look for them and use the code. They give additional 10% for over 60s. But the other lot have more sites and more CLs.

When it comes to CS/CLs have you ever been asked for membership details? I haven't. Mind you, not all of them are on the unmentionable sites/apps.

I think they also have the option of charging per person rather than per pitch so if solo-camping, become a much better deal than CMC

They both do this David. You have to let them know how many are coming when booking.

I just looked through their current offers and on 44 sites they have a further 25% off for midweek bookings. Last year we got grass only on their Oban site for less than £10 a night. Currently no grass only offers are available, but they normally start them later in the summer.

We joined what was then the CC when we were new to motorhoming over 10 years ago. We found the CLs were mostly very good and reasonable value, but on the few occasions when we were desperate enough to use a club site we found the stewards to be officious, with petty rules such as which way round you could park the motorhome. Not that they really catered for motorhomes anyway, which I doubt has changed much despite the addition to their name. We left after a year and wouldn't return.
The CCC we have found to be much better, the club sites are a bit expensive unless you are a solo traveller, but the CSs are good. Their pop-up Temporary Holiday Sites are good value, we are on an excellent one at Stanhope at the moment

I have not looked at the CMC for years. maybe a recentish change to compete with CCC?
I was put off the CMC with their snotty response to a request for membership about first having to inspect my camper so see if I was worthy of them.

I don’t like them due to their attitude towards us, and they’re expensive.
But they do have sites in places we like so I remain a member.
But I much prefer the CCC.

I used to be in both but rarely used any sites. Couple of years ago I dropped CMC after they came down against staying off grid/wild, they never did anything for motorhomes anyway.

CCC better deal for me as I get old gets allowance and I can use the empty/fill/shower etc option and not stay there at some of their sites

If one was significantly better than the other it would soon have a monopoly !

I've been in CMC since '72 and CCC since the '80s. Both have good & bad points. Wardens are people, some are officious some aren't.
Being in both doesn't make that much difference to how much the kids inherit.

I'm still in both and use their sites / CLs /CSs if they are what I want for that occasion.
Same applies to commercial sites / pubs/ wilding/ friend's drives / etc.
What a location delivers is more important that the label it has.

One point to remember is that the CCC 60+ discount does not apply at all times.

The ccc temporary holiday site's are bargains we stayed at bridgnorth last summer for £10 a night at Easter we stayed at Ripon racecourse with the Durham da for £15 a night with entertainment at night brilliant value

We were CAMC members but not any more. We used to use CLs quite a lot and never once got asked for membership details. We left the club under bad terms and have often thought about winging it and trying to stay on one of their CLs if we needed to, necessity hadn't arisen yet though.

We've been members of the CCC for some time now ....

Primarily for access to their 5 pitch basic CS sites ....

Often Basic BUT loverly locations ...and frequently bargain prices .

Camping and motorhome club can go and dissappear up their own 'arisses for all I care ....

From previous dealings with them they seem to be an overly officious bunch of folks that would make an Gestapo officer look kind compassionate and helpful .

Not a chance that I would ever have any further dealings with them .

We used to use the CCC Site at Clent Hills en route to the Newhaven Ferry [Pitch £20pn in 2019], but found the access difficult, especially the final 2-3 miles off the A456 and onto the A491. Now, we merely refuel at Asda Oldbury [M5S J2, direct from the motorway] and then rejoin M5S, leaving at J3 A456 towards Kidderminster, before turning off to the Hagley Bypass A491 [about 12 miles from Asda] - S4S ref S30832S] just before the Bell Inn at Belbroughton. Next morning, rejoin M5S at J4 [about 5 miles] and then take M40 exit after a couple of miles. Next stop Central Warwick Services nr J12 Gaydon to use the services and save the bother of emptying a cassette! Then Newhaven, either via A34 from J9 Oxford exit, or straight to M25 at J1 and down the M23 to the Ferry Port!

I never bothered renewing my membership the last couple of years doing UK tours as all the CL's we were using were ones where we were known at and just farmers fields. They dont care if you are a member. In all the years we have used them I think I can count on one hand where they asked for a membership number. Usually the fancy ones with EHU and showers and stuff.

By and large our experience of cl/Cs sites has been ....

The newer set up they were ....the more arsed they were about membership numbers ....

The old stagers ....especially the ones we have stopped at before were mostly bothered about avoid knob heads and not having any hassle ....

To the point of most of our regular spots are of the 'pitch up and if we don't catch up with you .....then just stick payment through the letferbox'

We have a pack of envelopes in the glove box for just those occasions .....

Payment and quick note with reg number through the door and

" I'll be gone like the darkness at dawn "
