Coming home from the Caerphilly meet my engine management light came on and van went into "limp mode" as the AA guy called it. Came home on the back of a recovery vehicle though turns out by the time the AA came I could probably have driven home!

My garage hooked it up to the computer which indicated that it was the accelerator pedal sensor. Unfortunately, or not, the symptoms had disappeared so the garage have fitted the new sensor without experiencing the problem. Hopefully that will be the end of it but the garage are saying it could be another electronic issue that caused the problem, in which case it's not rectified. They've been very up front about it and have spoken to a Citroen specialist.

Has anyone experienced this problem with the accelerator sensor, especially Citroen or Peugeot owners?

Have a google at a few citroen web forums.
I had an intermittent fault on a citroen xsara. Shutting down on approach to junctions.
my OBD reader gave no fault, which means main dealers will throw all sorts of different electrical componants at it.
symptoms on a citroen site came up with stepper motor £5.99 off ebay.
Brought, affixed problem solved. A lot of members reported ECU changes at £600+ by main dealers.
As said, google symptoms on correct forum and you could get a lucky break . HTH

You cannot fix for sure an intermittent fault if everything is working OK when they test it.

They`ve fitted the new part that was highlighted by the diagnostic they did and will have been stored in the memory as an error.

They`ve also spoken to a Citroen specialist, that`s all they can do.

No amount of ....... i reckon it might be ......... my mate says ........... Tom down the pubs thinks it`s .... etc. etc. etc. will work.

If it`s OK now and the MIL has been reset then that`s it, go out and enjoy, you have breakdown cover.

Thanks Wooie, I wasn't in any way criticising the garage. They've done all they could, I know. My reason for posting is that someone else might have had a similar situation which turned out a certain way....The guy at the garage was keen for me to pick people's brains on here. I'm off in it for a week or more on Sunday so fingers crossed! 😊

Have to agree with the above.
Had a fault on my Sierra Cosworth, engine would just cut out as you were driving, quite scary to say the least. Would restart after numerous attempts, thankfully before the battery went flat.

In and out of the main dealer and performance car specialists more times than I can remember but no fault found. Eventually had to resort to having the car towed to the garage when it cut out and the fault was found.

I had the same issue on a Fiat Ducato, built on the same assembly line in Seval as your van. previous advice offered and by the garage is sound. OBD readers occasionally will give a list of things I had that on my Honda...( OBD was wrong turned out to be a loosewire) Iwould go with it and see how you get on.Pretty common problem btw by all accounts
