Christmas in Portugal

Hi everyone,
I've only just found the forum which I'm very impressed by. Having read various threads, there are obviously alot of experienced members on here who can help a novice like me.
We are heading to the Algarve for Christmas (our first time in Portugal) and I understand in some areas there are lots and lots of motorhomes on the clifftops, to which the local police now take exception. I have been looking at Praia da Marinha about halfway between Portimao and Albufeira.
Any comments, experiences or favourite parking places gladly received!
Cheers

Hi buy the( Motorhome trails Portugal )book by James Gamgee there are a lot of places in there, some I may say not in use anymore .You will find no problem camping .Some places they dont like you there but there are a lot that are ok.Ask any of the motorhomers they will mark out all the places on a map for you.We are there for xmas as well but in Lagos on Trinidad campsite for a couple of nights dinner booked in A bar/Restaurant with a few other motorhomers. We dont usually do camp sites. If you cant get the book before you go At Tavira in the little launderette accross from Pingo Doce they sell them .....You can park up at Pingo supermarket lots of vans there, handy for shopping.I do ahve alist of places but to late to print them out now.Sent you a pm of a few of the places we go..

Have a lovely xmas ....

Thanks Val,
will try and get hold of a copy. Good to know it's not as hard finding spaces as I have been led to believe.

Have a good Christmas.

Hi Captain,

firstly welcome, you will find lots of info on this site as I'm sure we all do.

We have been in the Algarve for the last two winters, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not a problem wilding in most places along the coastline, but don't overstay your welcome. I work on the principal, two's company, three's a crowd. The Portugese Police are ok to a point, but if they see a large gathering sometimes they will move you on.
Look for the Praia (Beach) signs, usualy a good starting point. Also don't missout on the West coastline from Sagres up towards Lisbon, very nice, and some lovely places to overlook the sea.
The list is endless for stopovers, just ask people on your travels you will meet a lot!

You don't say when your going, but if you like, send a message and we can then e-mail you some interesting locations.

Happy Camping and enjoy your Christmas.:)

Hi Tom,
You can't beat getting away for Christmas, our sixth year in a row. Will be thinking of you over a cold beer on the beech!
