Chivas 'Royal Salute' whisky

Although I thought this might be of general interest to all whisky loving lads and lasses, I think it might be of special interst to AJ.
Our son bought his dad (Bob) this bottle for Christmas. It is a VERY special blended 21 year old whisky, made by Chivas...originally produced to commemmorate the Queen's coronation. The bottles, made by 'Wade' are in the three colours of the crown jewels. Saphire, Ruby, and Emerald.
This one is emerald. It retails at between £85-£100 per bottle...not that we would have paid that much..as much as we love whisky.
Having said that, we did it 'justice' on New Year's Eve, and I must say it is the best I have ever tasted.

You actually drank it!!

I'd have laid it up myself. Mind you the Irish malt I took to the Borders meet was absolute pi$$water, not recommended at all.

We certainly did!! it was made to be drunk..and it was fully appreciated. :D
Jackie ;)

So was the Irish pi$$ but we wished we hadn't drunk it.:( :D

You cruel cruel women, coming on the web and showing an empty bottle to people who clearly have issues where whipkey is concerned, shame on you :D :D

No point laying it up it's not going to age any more but it will evaporate and that would be a shame.

Chivas 'Royal Salute' whisky , we used to drink it back in the days it was only £5 a nipp so we could get the bag it was in (NEVER THOUGHT IT WAS ALL THAT GREAT MYSELF)
young and stupid comes to mind.:p

OOOOOOh -ity IS nice;) there ARE some jun ks about but that said, ordinary Chivas is( or was) a decent de luxe blended whiskey I seem to remember from my (serious) drinking days. As to de Irish Malt sound strange- not much of that baout-Bushmill do one butas malts go it's so so and distilled in the Dcotch manner, think- if rish Distillers, and like scottish Distillers, prodfucts vary depending to th quality f the malt used or available-there wasa time they used Canadian malt - I still feel somewhat queesy !
Irish whiskey is usually usually blended and triple distilled unless its is poteen when there is rarely time to do more than distil it once before the Excise arrive....so its great and may be peaty or coaly or... old seawrack-beachcomed whatever - but well pretty lacking in matured oak sherry barrel flavour and aromas

Own brand single malts are not to be scoffed at, for the price they are a good buy IMHO if you find one you like. Certainly nicer than some blended stuff at a similar price, I certainly can't afford to drink top shelf bottles very often.

What about the rest of you? What do you consider to be a good run of the mill bottle at less than £20?
