took the old girl in for it's test this morning (the van not wife:D) after test i thought i'd put it on the wiegh bridge while i was there:eek:kin hell got a lot to empty out to keep it below 3.5t:eek: too many vosa stop checks out there this time of the year just something to think about.

Good point & something i have had on my mind lately. The Murvi is rated at 3.5 tons, on the weighbridge with me +10 gallons of water & about the same in fuel plus usual internal stuff, clothing, tools, food etc I weighed in at 3164 Kilos leaving me with 336 kilos to play with, OK so far with just the two of us. Buuuutt come September I am in Italy collecting ones sister & husband + luggage ( after a cruise ) and bringing them back to the UK, so I think the possibily of loading up with cheap booze before I get on the ferry in Calais is a definate no no.

I think we all carry to much - just in case we might need it!!!

explain that to the man from vosa when he wants £400 for each cwt (50gk) that your over wieght:eek::D

No problem here, 7.5 tonnes GVW and around a tonne to spare when fully loaded with fuel, water, and all our kit :)

Weight

For the trip to Scotland earlier this year we emptied the van as we took a friend with us. Weight was not the issue but space was! We took a load out. Then before I had chance to put any back we changed the van. This has focused or minds to ask, what do we really need. The answer is not a lot. Why we had 6 mugs and 6 glasses, 4 small plates and 4 large plates etc, etc is anyones guess. There are only two of us! I worked on the principle have I used it in the last year.

I found two hair dryers and two sets of hair straighteners as well. Not mine, either of them!

My Compass Advantgard goes to my local garage for MOT as it is 3 ton he can do it but would that be the engine end or is that the habitat end as well.
HELP
If the overall weight is 3 ton then I add myself and extras to it for gross weight ???? is that right:eek::eek::confused::confused:
Thanks

your gross wieght is the max the van should ever wiegh i.e.you, passengers ,fuel ,food any thing and everthing it should never go over it's gross wieght,it cost me £700 years ago for 2cwt (old money:D)over on a ford transit:mad:

Tare weight (overall weight you refer to) = empty of all non fixed items plus usually full fuel tank.
Gross vehicle weight = tare weight + passengers and all the goodies, full water tanks, food, etc.
Permissable weight or plated weight or gross vehicle mass = the maximum weight that the manufacturer permits or the regulations allow.

We always have a big wee before we set off - surely that counts? We can then install another bottle of wine! Anyway, I've been to weight watchers and if you take your knickers off, have no food for that day and try to go to the toilet prior to 'weigh in' - it makes absolutely no difference. So surely whether it's fuel or beer - will the weigh bridge differentiate between a full bladder, swollen ankles or just a fat bitch driving a lovely sleek WILTHEBEAST?? :)

I wonder how many other motorhome owners have bee done for this then hey?

I think there is far to many rules.

I will carry on as i am, otherwise I would be really unlucky!

I'm confused now,

from memory chassis plate on our tag axle peugeot shows 3500kg on the top line with 4800kg on the bottom line, with the individual axle weights in between, so how are these explained then?

3500kg is the maximum the vehicle can weigh when loaded (GVW).
4800kg is the maximum allowed weight of the vehicle plus a trailer (GTW).
Individual axle weights show the maximum allowed weight on each axle (the total of which will usually be more than the GVW to allow for uneven loading).

I'd be surprised if the GVW for a tag-axle motorhome is as low as 3500kg, is there an Al-Ko plate elsewhere with different weights?

Yes does seem low-my tag is 5000kg GVW & 6000kg GTW.

Here's the chassis plate, have never come across an Alko plate and I do know this bus pretty well even though we've only had it 3 months, although that isn't a good thing...

I do have some of the brochures etc and have a recollection of seeing the weight as 3500kg,

so if the AA man disputes the weight I point him to the plate?

also assume a maximum weight of a trailer would be 1300kg?

That looks like an original Peugeot plate showing all 3 axles, so it seems it was built as a 3 axle job originally, rather than a chassis-cab that was modified by a motorhome converter adding an Al-Ko chassis to it.

Your plated GVW is 3500kg even though the axle weights add up to 4000kg. It would probably be possible to get it replated to a higher GVW if you wanted.

Yes,the maximum weight of a trailer would be 1300kg.

tis strange indeed, it has pug hubs/brakes etc but alko shocks and the bolt on galvanised chassis extension, guess it must have been built in the peugeot factory as a 3 axle chassis cab then supplied to the coach builder as you suggest.

were fine at moment im 2" of the bump stops so loads of load to put in back yet for us
