Just had a trawl arround for a cheap Dover to France ferry for June.

Booked with P&O at a cost of £64.50 return ! :)

I booked ours before Christmas with Sea France, we go out 29th May,..return 29th June, sensible times as well £49 :D

the channel crossing prices vary by the minit and good luck to all that achieve a good price we are being duped into thinking we have found a good deal

but my question is what do you call sensible or un reasonable times ?

i am sure some will prefer a long drive to the terminal from home then an overnight crossing

or others will perfer night journey from home to the port with an early crossing

there are lots of variations

which ones do you prefer bearing in mind that night crossings are not always cheaper than lunch time crossings so lets forget the price and answer with the preferd crossing time i imagen there will be lots of diffrent combinations.

we prefer to travel to the terminal by day and cross sometime in the evening
then usualy overnight at our leisure within around 40/50 miles from calais ready for a fresh start in the morning
for us no matter what time ferry has been it seems to be the most tireing part of the whole trip

Cheap crossings

June, out at 6 am midweek, return 8am, Sunday with Norfolk line through Caravan Club £45 return, could have been cheaper at 12,2 or 4am.

We always travel to Dover the night before and stop on the sea front, usually others there. The return crossing We ovenight at the aire at Hondschoote which is 20 miles from Dunkerque. We the have all day to travel where We want to go.

Ramsgate - Ostend is an interesting and little known connection.
it may be suitable for people that enjoy a long sail and for those travelling to the Benelux and to Germany. Not for people sensitive to seasickness.

This line is mainly used by trucks and they are consequently not crowded at all. The truckers eat in a seperate lounge and often go resting in their cabin very quickly. I remember that the ship felt really deserted.

They used to offer promotional 2 day trips for as little as 35 €, but I believe that's finished now.
But it's certailly worth checking the prices.

Actually I now see they charge 80 € for a 2 day trip - but you can leave on day 1 with the 18.00 hrs ship and return on day 3 with the 18.30 ship ...

I booked a crossing with Norfolk Lines for my Hymer from Dover to Dunkerque a month or so ago.

Out on Saturday afternoon (4pm) towards the end of July and back on Sunday morning (10am I think) in early August. Cost me £40!

This weekend I'm off to France for three days on the motorbike. With LD Lines (out from Portsmouth to Le Havre overnight on Thursday - sleeping on the deck and back from Bolougne to Dover) and it was more expensive.

How do they work the rates out?

ferry

Thanks Leo
at approx £400 each way it is expensive for our van
We are better driving south in UK and using Tunnel

I too was more than a little disapointed when I saw those prices.
Not really for thrifty Scots (and others):D:D
You certainly can drive a long way for 400£ in your own van.
The only merit of this line is its existance

How are you getting cheap deals

Just had a trawl arround for a cheap Dover to France ferry for June.

where are you finding these deals? I booked last november for june 12th to 28th cost with bike trailer £109 (which I thought was cheap) just tried again for price without trailer £130 are you using club discounts or something?

I start looking in October when the new year's prices first come out. Sometimes they are cheap initially, and other times they are expensive ..I think it depends on their mood on the day..then if you keep watching, you see them change ..I think according to how the bookings are going. If no one is booking, they drop the prices, then once folks start to book..up go the prices. I book mine through the Caravan Club web site.

a daly trawl of all the opperators through a search engine called (yourself )
is the only way
the prices do as previously said reflect the amount of current bookings being taken (when bookings are low sow is the price and vice versa)
i did know a person who works for the dearest ferries in the world BRITANY FERRIES and they have comfirm this is correct
i have previous experiance of this
for a particular booking i was charged £240 return whilst on board i talked to a person way behind me in the Q he confirmed he had paid £around £400 for exactly the same crossing days and times
so my advice is always shop around
