Cheap, Cheerfull Sites

I know that the ethos of this forum is primarily devoted to our desire to wildcamp and the places in which we might excersize that right but I do notice that some members do hold a certain reluctance and sometimes even a fear to do so. Therefore after my constant trumpeting about the HAYFIELD site it got me thinking that if there is an alternative that is available at a pittance or a very low fee then that is also something that we should share with each other. On so many occasions, especially here in the crowded North west, yet so close to the beauty of the Peak and lakes national parks, that are pretty well policed illegal parking wise, it becomes harder to find a safe quiet stress free place to wild. So what are members oppinions on sharing our knowledge of low cost low facility sites that by there nature and lack of ammenities tend to be avoided by the dare I say (riff raff). I will just suggest my 2 local favourites, Hayfield CCC site of course and Bakewell CCC site in the village of Youlgrave another minimun facility site, no toilets or washing facilities but in a fantastic location From £2.65 with age concession the price of a pint. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&h....695113&spn=0.011089,0.028925&z=15&iwloc=addr

I know some people are after getting stopovers for free, but a low cost like £3-4 per night is not bad value when you consider you can quite easily pay that for a couple of hours parking, especially here down south.

Yes and I think it fits in well with the pub stopovers Idea.

Down on Hayling Island it is now £4 for 4 or more hours & £75 for a Season ticket. The Council cannot understand why local people avoid the Beach during the Summer.

wild or not wild?

i have to confess to using a c.l. site. it is only a ten minute walk from where i live but it is such a perfect location that i cannt resist it. Facilities , a tap and waste water drainage. it,s situated beside a ruined castle on a rocky cliff top, steps down to beach. the site takes up to 5 vans and i avoid it if its full. i often get the site to myself.you do have to pay £6 for the site but hey i can splash out sometimes, i'm worth it.

Where is this site located, Irenerobbie, or are you keeping it secret?:D

cheap & cheerful

If you are a member of the Camping Club, try their temporary sites. Good prices, often in locations where there is not a site. Average price £5. Our favourites includes Criccieth,Abergele and Ripon.

mystery site

I have just joined up to hopefully find exactly this kind of discussion. I am too new to travelling with my motorhome to contribute anything useful yet but thanks for this thread and if I discover anything while I am out and about I will surely post it. Penny
