Charging sealed mobility scooter when not on ehu

Hello Can anyone tell me is there a connection I can buy that will connect to a 100wat solar pannell to charge my wife's sealed mobility scooter battery I have a connection for charging on emu but we mostly use cl sites with no ehu and some sites don't do battery charging I know I could charge it off a generater but that would make me unpopular with other campers the lead has a small 3pin socket that's plugs into the battery any info much appreciated thanks

Best to look at the output of the current mains charger you have got should have a label on it. If you have a multi Meyer you could check the pinouts and see what the 3 are for.

Check the output voltage of your charger. If its more than 12 v you'll probably need to use an inverter.

Why not get a suitable inverter,I bought a 600 watt one from Maplins that is fed from the leisure batteries via Crocodile clips for about £75 I have hard wired it though, they also have a 1000 watt one for £125. That one has to be hard wired but a simple job.

I use an inverter to charge the wife's mobility scooter but we run it from the van battery rather than the leisure batterys and only turn the inverter on when the engine is running and it works fine and thats on a 24v powerchair or a large 8mph 24v scooter you would really need to hard wire it straight from the battery hope this helps

I don't know what mobility scooter you have but usually there are TWO 12Volt batteries hooked in series to supply 24 Volts to the scooter.

IF you are handy with tools and know a little bit about car electrics you could ADD a set of leads to EACH battery and charge them in PARALLEL with a solar panel and a small charge contoller on 12Volts.

Would save the hassle of an inverter converting 12Volt into 240Volt and then back to 24Volt.

This will need great caution and be planned correctly as you may end up with a short!

This thread is interesting to me as I also need to charge my scooter, and i do not have EHU but i do have 100w solar panel. Ive been looking for ways to charge it and will probably go the inverter route and a good idea to do it from van battery..!! I also looked into fixing a small solar panel to scooter for top up but dont think its practical and would only be effective in the summer. So if anybody comes up with a good way of doing it without frying the leisure battery im soooo Interested.....!!! :)

Because of this problem ive also been looking into adapting a scooter to petrol with maybe a lawn mower engine (im sure there is some legal issues with this idea..!) and making it more robust so I can offroad and enjoy the countryside with everyone else...So if any of you clever people on here can come up with a design that has the ability to be powered, collapsible for storage (like a boot scoot) and robust enough to enjoy a little rough terrain..not looking for something that can climb mountains but strong enough to access the countryside...get in touch!!!...lololol :)

interesting

I too wild with a mobility scooter and have to go on ehu every 2/3 days to recharge so will watch with interest. I have a 75 watt solar panel a 115 amp battery and a 600 watt inverter never thought of using to charge scooter or even if it is possible.
I think the scooter has 2x45amp batteries but as it is an all terrain trike I can put 2x75 amp batteries in I intend to put these in later this year. So getting them charged without ehu would be great.

Exactly !!!!!! thats what im talking about (ish) Ive seen the youtube vids of petrol scooters and ive also seen the price of speciality offroad scooters. Im sure Nigel someone like you with your brains and imagination and my knowledge of whats necessary can come up with and economical simple design that can benefit all us wildcampers that are denied the access to the beautiful country we live in...(if not just design me one and i wont tell anyone..!!) :)

When you say quite a while roughly how long?

I hope some electrics wiszard on here can help here.
I tried charging my old jazzy in the car at 1.5 amp and it took more than two whole days. None of the in car chargers are going to charge the batteries as fast as mains,
There is a way of doing it by charging each single battery seperately and the wireing for the plug in for this is already installed in all new scooters. but I cant find anyone who supplies the hook ups for this.
