Which is best for Motorhomes with Kids and a dog?

Pros and Cons please?

We have neither children or dogs but always use the tunnel its quick convienient and always smooth and can mostly be flexible with booking times if you are early or late and as you are in your vehicle we usually have a snack whilst crossing 35 minutes from start to finish.

Tunnel for business but ferry for a holiday.
The tunnel is quick, convenient and boring but the ferry is an adventure for kids and a nice break for drivers who need a meal.

I agree with Powertrain.:):) But I must confess there is no way you would get me in that tunnel.:(

Taking the tunnel in a motorhome is better than with a car or bike, because you do get the opportunity to make a brew or a bite to eat. We are using Sea France at the moment tho, due to the price. I booked a crossing last Feb for our July crossing which was £78, then when we came back and started planning our next rip which starts next Friday, and our crossing is 9.55 am going, and 10.15 am return all for the princely sum of £63.75.

Thats for a 7m motorhome and 2adults

I never seem to be able to get anywhere near that when I price the tunnel.

Err, I thought that the gas has to be turned off while on the train:confused:

Hence the preference on using the ferry, at least in the unlikly (but possible)
event of a serious mishap:eek: you have a second chance.:(

We have a thermos flask  the gas has to be turned off & I can imagine serious fines if caught.
We prefer the tunnel & using Tesco club cad vouchers it's by far the cheapest for us. What I like is they just have the price for a camper & the length doen't matter, also it's nice & quick. Used to like the ferry as it was part of the holiday but now just want to get over to the land of hassle free camping. :D:D

Ferry or Tunnel

We have just been pricing ferry versus tunnel for a couple of wks time, Ferry thro' aferries £54 return mh 2 adults...... tunnel £195 for the same.........So ferry for me and £141 difference buys a lot of fuel!

Ferry is part of the holiday

Tunnel is boring but quick

Always get the best price with ferry so that decides it for us

£50 return with Sea France in a couple of weeks time. Both crossings are good time of day(8.00 am leaving and 9.00am returning)

Like you I let the price decide although have to admit if they were same price I will still edge for the ferry, an hour difference is not all that much really and after a long journey from the North (liverpool) the ferry gives me a decent break from driving ready for the next jaunt.

I can understand the issue for people in the south particularly on business or on a short trip but on a long trip as we go, the hour difference makes no odds.

We like to get straight down there, get across, then park up at the Auchan in Boulougne :D We can be there in about one & half hours of getting to the tunnel.

Being retired we can pick quiet times mid week to go across, we have to travel from North Wales & prefer to drive overnight to miss most of the traffic.

walkies

Can you take your dog over with a pet’s passport now or is that a problem?

No problem now taking your dog to Europe providing it's had it's rabies jabs and blood tests and got it's PET passport.. not so much for leaving the country, but for getting it back into the UK. It'll have to be checked over by a vet in the country of departure before you travel back Taking your pets abroad : Directgov - Travel and transport
If travelling by channel ferry the pet has to stay in the van on it's own for the whole of the crossing, which can be a bit stressfull for the animal, but if you go by chunnel you stay in your vehicle with your pet

Walkies

thanks for that information Sue, have you taken a dog abroad ?

Thanks for the posts guys.

Still undecided maybe we will go out on Tunnel using our Tesco Club points and back on the Ferry.

Why Sea France rather than P&O is it just price?

Make sure you order your Tesco vouchers in time, we order ours almost 2 weeks ago. I had an email saying they had been sent but we are still waiting :( I gave them a call but they said we have to wait 14 days before reporting them as lost.

passported pet

Not yet, although she's passported and ready to go. Circumstances have been against us heading across the channel for a while now, but we're ready for the time when we can.

Sue:)
