CONDOR FERRIES CON!

Thought I had a deal Day trip foot passenger per person £ 26.50
Duty free advertised on there website cigarettes @ £24 per 200 and Tobacco @ £19 per kilo ,,,,Sounds good don’t it .
Until we got to the jersey port of St Hellier, we went on a Saturday by the way
We were greeted with large signs in the customs lounge saying
Duty free allowance is only 200 fags or ¼ kilo of tobacco per person.
Add this to the fare paid it’s the same price as buying it here.
There was no mention on there web site of this apparent amendment
To the usual allowance if you go out of territorial waters.
And no mention of this on the ferry
But there was small print on the reverse of the ticket.
Who looks on the back of a ticket it usually contains adverts
And when you are on a high looking forward to a day or so away the back is of no importance
Only the ferry times matter and they are on the front
Apparently the Channel Islands has its own agreement with the customs and the customs allowance is different
As we did not take the van we walked around st Hellier we found it a scruffy dirty place similar to
Poole in Dorset lots of unoccupied buildings/shops also lots of shops/ buildings unkempt fascias ect on
Footpaths covered in chewing gum and to cap it all,,,, the tourist information office is closed on Saturdays and Sundays
when most people visit for day trips
Most pubs were scruffy outside with drunks staggering around outside and with no disrespect most seemed to be of Scottish origin as were lots of the shop staff who I must say were most helpful and polite .
We have camped all around the island in the past and enjoyed the experience
But go again defiantly NOT .condor ferries and St Hellier spoilt it for us .
My advice is don’t use them unless you really study the small print the prices and terms
