Simple enough job BUT ..

The bottom screw just kept going round and round. The top one came out but had rusty residue on it. The other side is the same but it's the top screw on that side that's going round and round.

So I did some measuring and drilled a hole. There was no chance whatsoever of getting hold of the blind rivet. So I made the hole bigger but it was still seized solid even after soaking it with WD40.

So I used a Dremel and started to cut through the side of the fitting this made the fitting very hot and it fell out of the hole but it made the hole bigger.

So I had to make something to fit. I used a 10mm stainless flanged bolt and 10mm stainless flanged nut. The bolt head was trimmed down and a 6mm thread hole down the middle. I trimmed the nut down as there was little room to work.

I put plenty of Araldite around the fitting and bolted it into place.

I've just got to make a plate to cover the hole now. Luckily it's in the garage and the box with the jack etc in sits on the wall. Needs something on the other side of the hole to stop any water that may get in there.

I removed the top blind rivet and replaced it with an Aluminum one again with plenty of Araldite round it. Copper grease on the two stainless screws and every thing back together.

Its not really good enough things should be made to last, what a battle you have had.

Maybe on off cut of insulation board could be stuffed in the holes ?

Similar thing must have happened to one of the screws on the high level brake light on mine, the previous owner had replaced the rivnut that had pulled out of the plastic with a raw plug.

Seems to work so I've not changed it, but I did have to rebuild the brake light.

Only 4 off the small lamps worked, the bulb holders were to blame.
I see from a previous MOT it had been replaced. And not lasted long.

So I dremmelled out the rear of the fitting and glue gunned a new strip of LEDs in instead.

And crimped a new plug and socket connector on it.

Hopefully that won't blow.

Never use copper grease if alloy is there but marine 24c water proof grease is best
