Cat on board

This is a `thank you` message to all that gave such valuable information and advice about introducing my cat to the delights of campervaning. I bought a harness from my local pet shop, but found that it was still too small for my big cat Salem. He hated being tied up in it as it was far too tight round his body. I consequently sat down at my sawing machine and made him one that was more comfortable. I introduced him to that for a few hours before taking him on a short journey. After the initial shock of hearing the camper engine starting he soon settled down on the passenger seat, occassionally risking a glance out of the window. His first trip went well and I rewarded him with treats when we got back. I`m pritty confident he will eventually get used to the idea that wearing his harness will take him on trips with us. Thanks to all that gave me hints and tips, I can now look forward to having Salem with us on holidays;
happy travelling,
Sarina.

Cool! camper cat :)

wonder if our cat would take to the idea, some how I doubt it...

Cats

Whilst at Culzean Bay C&CC site recently someone there had a cat with them, litter tray was in the van. But of more fun, I am in club where we rally and occasionally someone always pipes up " Do you remember Mr and Mrs X who used to bring there cat with them. Do you remember the time the cat didn't come back and they had to spend an extra night there waiting for it to return." The caravan had a cat flap fitted, but I wonder what excuse they used for not going to work on the Monday?

So perhaps it might not be a goo idea to let it go roaming.

Well, our Salem would have a long lead attached to his harness, to give him the freedom to roam around the van for a certain distance, but he would not be left unattended or off his lead, as that is also against rules on most campsites for any pets.
If you let your cat off the lead you must be prepared for the worst. Cats will explore their surroundings and occassionally stay away from home for several days at a time. Unless you can understand cat behaviour, don`t even take them with you, I would say.

Our cat

...would drive every body on any camp site daft after one night. He's noisy and drives us daft. Think we would be ushered off site after the first night. :D Surprised we haven't had an asbo for our cats' behaviour. Friendly and harmless but boy does he whinge!

Whinging cat?

Thank goodness, our Salem is a chilled out, quiet soul.

Salem

Interesting name for your cat, doesn't sound like he's from Salem (s Lot). Wonder how he came to be named Salem?

He was already named by some children before we even bought him. My youngest son liked the name, so we kept it. Maybe he was called that because he was a feisty little ****, even at 8 weeks old, lol.

Anyone wanting to see Salem, please look me up under the members list and take a look at my album, cheers folks.
