Cat on board; will campsites allow entry?

I was contemplating taking my cat Salem along on a longer trip, and while looking into campsites that allow dogs to come along, was wondering what they might say to a cat on a lead? Anyone else done this before?
Sarina.

I knew some friends that used to take there cat away with them until sadly he died. I don't think he was even on a lead, but didn't wander far from the van anyway. I can't see a problem, just watch out for excited dogs and clean up any poo as you would with a dog.
Having said that, I assume it's a domestic cat and not a tiger or lion or something like that!!

Hi,
looks a bit funny a cat on a lead,:D but seen it done before, should be no problem if on a site and it's tethered to a ground spike. Don't know if a charge would be made similar to the Dog charge. Phone the two big clubs and ask, C&CC and CC.
Wilding, you wouldn't have any problems.

Happy Camping:)

I traveled many places with not only a cat, but a 3 legged fox and a barn owl in my camper. I never came across a site that refused me! Just be sure the cat is OK with being in strange places. I suggest a cat harness and lead. Do not put a lead on a collar, they hate it! My cat had been used to it all from a kitten, so it was not a problem. It takes a while to get an older cat to tolerate a harness. HTH Paol.

Seen it a lot in Europe, the method that made the most sense to me was to keep him in a cate cage under the van for the first day so he can scent his way back if he gets off, I don't think people declare them like dogs so probably no charge.

Salem is a house cat, never even gone outside before. I bought him as a companion for our old cat, 9 years ago. Our Tootsie had to be put down due to a big tumour on her heart. Salem has been on his own now for 3 years, but has ajusted to lazy living at home. Have no idea how he would react to being put on a lead. But he does want to follow me outside when I have to put things into the camper. He doesn`t like being left alone at home if we go on holiday. That`s why I thought of taking him with us occasionally.

He`s not a lion, lol. Mind you, the vet says he`s got some scotish wildcat in him. He`s about twice the size of a normal cat, about the size of a jack russel. Everyone that visits our house can`t believe the size of him. I look at cats outdoors and keep thinking they`re small. No, they are normal size, our Salem is a big cat!

Hi sarina(what a lovely name) why dont you just go for a short trip, say two hours and slowly build up, leave something youve worn a lot in the camper, so salem associates it with you, and if he,s been ok with a short trip give a small favourite treat, good luck...Bob

Cheers for that! Shall have a go sometime. I`m determined to have my cat on board. He`s a real character and would make a great travel companion.

I would agree with guerdevals idea of letting him scent outside.

After a few hours, you will see thousands of years of evolution manifest itself.
if my previous 'house cat ' was anything to go by.

They like the easy life because they are not daft and we make it easy for them inside. After a few minutes you will see his natural instincts kick in.

I am sure he will have a whale of a time on his travels with you
