Hi. We're at Santa Marina de Valdeon in the Picos. Has anyone tried travelling the little road down from Posada de Vadeon to Cain? Would be glad to get any feedback by tomorrow when we set off. I know it may be pretty narrow, but heard it had been upgraded a few years back? We've done plenty of narrow roads before, but the issue is possibly frequency of passing places? We've got a 5.8m coach built.

Been there👍

Well, the guy at the campsite said... don't even think of it with that van, the road's too narrow, nowhere to pass, too much traffic, I can get you a taxi 40€ each way??!!***.
So thus encouraged we went for it in Bessie and were mightily pleased we did.

What a Grand Wee Road! Narrow, steep, bendy, overhanging cliffs, OK...but all a matter of timing and good luck. Going down early morning we only met one vehicle...A LORRY!! but fortunately on the upper section which is wider with more passing places. The crux is the last couple of miles where the road cuts under cliffs or dangles over the river. We managed to snag the last decent parking space in Cain. There is additional grass parking but access ramps look uncomfortably steep and abrupt.

Coming back later we encountered numerous landrover taxis and minibuses, but folks are friendly and patient and with a bit of wiggling we always squeezed through. OK for a coach built up to 6.5m, 7.5m is allowed but passing place size and the limited size and number of parking places at Cain would be a problem.

Wouldn't dream of trying weekends and holidays.

Cain has the most stunning setting surrounded by high pointy craggy peaks. The Cares Gorge path which starts from Cain is quite breathtaking...or should that be knee trembling!? It starts with a series of galleries and tunnels cut in the rock faces of the chasm and proceeds from there along more of the same, alternating with high unprotected paths which seem to get higher and more exposed and airy as the gorge deepens downstream. All the time you are conscious of your own tiny ant like size compared with the soaring bastions of pointy jagged peaks above. Definitely well with the effort of getting there.

Hi
If I've figured out how to do it correctly here should be some photos of Cain, the road there and the gorge...to whet the appetite.

Maybe a bit late now but just seen this message.

We did this on Sunday 7th May 2017. It is narrow with few passing places in the narrowest parts with hills up to 20% gradient. Left early and had breakfast in Cain, had no problem meeting other vehicles or parking when we got there. After doing half the Ruta del Cares walk we left late afternoon and again did not meet anything on the narrow parts. My thinking was that most people would be heading up early morning and back late afternoon. We have a 6m PVC. Overall it was well worth it for the walk. During the day there was a small coach there, so big is possible!
