The first thing I did when I got my Duetto was to remove the carpets and store them. But now I am getting the Hymer I am wondering if I should leave them in.

Do you have carpets?

my Nuevo (and my previous M/h come to think of it) both came with lovely cream carpets - totally unsuited to a vehicle which will spend most of its life parked in a field!
Anyway I replaced it with a brown exterior grade carpet made primarily for the decks of boats, almost indestructable, I take it out after every trip give it a shake to remove the rough stuff and then power hose it!
the down side to it is that its like walking on a door mat! (a bit rough on the bare feet) although I notice that these days a similar but much softer carpet is available

I have fitted carpets running below the furniture and into all the internal areas so they have to stay ...

So in the high traffic areas I have fitted custom cut Dirt Trapper mats from:

Official Dirt Trapper Mat(R) | Dirtcatcher Mats(R)

These are held in place by press studs and at the end of each trip I take them out and machine wash them.

Our Daybreaker came with fitted carpets in various places with the rest being linoleum covering.

We bought a hard wearing living room carpet remnant from a local carpet shop and cut it so the linoleum is covered. When the slide is retracted the carpet is rolled up and left pushed up against the furniture.

Makes it seem much warmer when the weather outside is wet and chilly.

Yes

We have 2 fitted carpets that came with the vehicle.
We got small carpet samples to put on top of the high use areas.
These are easy to shake clean (daily):cool1: and even wash.
Vehicle is 11 year old and original carpets are still good.

Ours came with cream carpets and yes they do get grubby at times but the vac and clean up easily,we leave them down as it feels warmer on the feet and makes for a quieter drive, I did think of taking them up and storing them but the only person to gain is the next owner, and I haven't bought it for them I bought it for us, so we have left them down for us to enjoy

Ours also has cream carpets, we leave them down all the time but have put some extra mats over them. We have one in kitchen area which is washable and a round one in the sitting area which also hides where we took the table out. We have a battery powered vac which we regularly use and once a year I hire a steam cleaner and do all carpets and upholstery.

Tis an individual thing really.
We remove ours for summer use and refit for winter use, and we always remove shoes when stepping into the van!
The van will stay warmer with carpets and without as someone said earlier, if you have a double floor with floor trap doors, no matter how clean you feet are, dirt will go down the trap doors and sit onto of the water tanks.

We are the same, out in summer in in winter.

Fully carpeted with 70's granny patterned Axminster. Rechargeable hoover for trips. Full hoover when home.
Shows zero dirt and stains.
How can you not have one in winter?

I have placed secondary mats on top of the carpet but how do you stop them moving around. I only have to walk over them once one they have rucked up

The cream carpets were removed be the previous owners when new and stored, they laid there own carpeting but relaid the original carpet with its dome fittings when they were selling it, looked the business, we have done the same, new carpets stored in the loft and we fitted dark grey rubber backed microfibre carpeting like this Lakeland, the home of creative kitchenware we bought 3 very large ones for £20 each at a dog show, they are non slip, never move, total washable, "if you have a big enough washing machine," but you can remove them and power wash them if you want, but we never have, they come up great with a brush or a hoover.

PS, its the type you get for entrances to shops and offices

My van conversion had Lino on the floor which was a tad chilly on the tootsies so got a nice tartan carpet cut to size and the edges bound.

So you removed the carpets and stored them? When it came to part-ex your motorhome, did the fact the carpets were like new make the slightest difference to the value or interest from the buyer?

I am the same and when I got new seats for my Camper that looked superb with their two-tone colour, first thing I did was put grey waterproof covers on them and NEVER benefited from their appearance from the day after I bought them to the day I sold it.
We all do it, but it really makes no sense whatsoever, so I say USE THEM and ENJOY THEM. Don't save them for a future owner to store away after you.

Removed the carpets and fitted interlocking foam tiles. These are easy to clean add a bit of soundproofing, warm to walk on in bare feet.We also have three rubber backed runners to help clean muddy paws. Also very cheap. Probably about £24 to do all the habitation floor and the rear locker floor. They are grey tiles so may not suit everybody.

I took mine out of the Rapido for the summer this week due to the temperature drop at night I have put a carpet down not the original as I will only put those back if I sell it so they are kept clean.

I installed same with previous Dethleffs. Would consider same for current N&B and, concur with your above comments. Our local Costco supply tile, cheap as chips. See clip below, not exactly same, but similar.

Those tiles are very good and ideal in a workshop to save fatigue when stood at a workbench. And are, as said, cheap as chips. I've use them lots.
On the downside they LOOK cheap as chips and would totally spoil the appearance of a nicely finished self-build campervan let alone an expensive factory-built motorhome.

Cover with loose carpets that you can lift and brush outside.

Replace them as required.
