After having a big problem with a 4 day breakdown in France due to a local Fiat Dealer in UK not fixing the gearbox properly and no help from Fiat Camper "We Do Not Care" after the judder fix we sold the Motorhome and decided to buy a new car and caravan which was a very expensive mistake " still we live and learn " , now happily we have sold the brand new caravan at a knocked down price complete with lots of extra's its back to Motorhoming , so now we are on the lookout for a new replacement , but definateley NOT a Fiat ,so we can hopefully pick up where we left off and go back to enjoying our retirement touring France:)

Get a Fiat based van registered between 2003 and 2006. Preferably 2.8 jtd.

These are the trouble free years for Ducato`s. I swopped my newish Peugeot based van for an older model simply to get less problems.

BUY NOTHING OF ANY MAKE AFTER 2006

I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH: Gearbox, Clutch, Flywheel, Canbus, Water Leaks etc.

My van is nearly 5 tonne and I just get in and drive it.

Do not think that new Mercedes, VW, Ford, Renault etc are trouble free.

Iveco ?

8 years 70k miles ... Two faults ... One high-pressure diesel pump the other the electric window mechanism ... Both fixed within 4 hours .

Another suggestion is to take your Fiat to an Iveco service agent ... They won't fix it as fast (because Iveco lay down strict turn around times for their "trucks") but they are much more efficient than Fiat "car dealers".

Edit to add my current 2007 Iveco has done 50k miles with just that electric window failing ... Diesel pump was on 6 year old 2002 version.

Because of the 'judder' problem & at the time we were looking Fiat wouldn't acknowledge there was a fault so we got a Renault based van. Have had it about 21 months done over 14k miles including a couple of trips to Spain & Portugal & up to now it hasn't missed a beat. Not what I would call one of the best looking vans, the cab really looks cheap but it does the job. I have the 150 bhp one with the quickshift 6 automatic gearbox. Spoke to a few other Renault Master owners & none I have mentioned any problems where about half of my friends who have Fiat vans have had problems

Renaut

I had a 140 Master it was fantastic ... But Renault Car dealers could not fit it in their workshops because in order to get funding from Renault for outfitting workshops roller shutter doors had the be of a specific size that was big enough for a minibus not a coachbuilt motorhome.

There are still only a few Renaulr Car dealers that can cope with them. Go to a Renault Truck service agent? ... No ... they are a separate company & can't do Renault Car warrenty work. They can do Gm & Nissan version though lol.
