Hello,

This is not a wild camp question but a Camp site question if anyone can help.

We are doing the London Marathon again in 2012 and we are thinking of staying in our motorhome rather than a hotel, i don't fancy risking parking wild in London and dont think there are any sites listed on the database anyway. Not really knowing London that well i have been researching and was wondering if anyone knows if the Caravan club site at Abbey Wood or Crystal palace would be a good choice ? i know they approximately 7 miles from the start but can anyone tell me what the transport links are like and in particular on Marathon days? Especially if you have stayed there whilst doing the marathon.

Thanks for any advise you can offer.

James

Cheers *****, it does , one hurdle out of the way ! also believe the two site are out of the congestion charge .

Have used both sites. Crystal Palace into centre is by bus only - service 3 to Westminster, Trafalgar Square, Oxford Street area. I think at weekends it is about a 10 to 12 min frequency and takes about 45 to 60 mins. Bus stop is a couple of mins from entrance. Abbey Wood is a train journey into Charing Cross and takes about as long although frequency didn't seem to be as great as the bus was. Walk to station about 5ish mins.

Hope this of use.

Abbey Wood

Abbey Wood is a nice site, short walk to train station

I dont know if you are aware of this, the congestion charge is only for Monday to Friday and as the London Marathon is always run on a Sunday then the congestion charge will not effect you! Good luck with your planning!

Thanks Macbob , we will be down Friday and returning Monday but believe going through the zone can be avoided. Hopefully
