Recently up here in Scotland we have seen rural car parks that were free for years now starting to charge and others increasing their charges. Generally speaking most of us accept that local councils are struggling to make ends meet, and this is one way of generating extra income.
But Argyle and Bute have overstepped the mark, and created bad feeling up here.
The car parks in arrochar have been used by hill walkers for decades originally free from charge.
They give access to what are called the Arrochar Alps, Ben Arthur ( the cobbler) Ben narnain, Ben Eim, and Ben Vane.
Around fifteen years ago they started to charge £1 per day from 9am till 6pm.
Well they have increased the charge to £9 a day.
The hillwalking forums are organising a boycott of the car parks, some are saying they simply won’t pay.
This has been covered in the newspapers.
We have over 280 munroes in Scotland and hundreds of corbetts, it seems that Argyle and Bute have forgotten this, in there greed and stupidity. We will go elsewhere.
