Hi peeps bit of a silly question really but......was thinking of joining the caravan club for a season to see what its like and was wondering if you can still use your membership on the caravan and camping club sites as well or are they completley different?:confused:as have seen a few of them sites on our travels.Happy Easter.Ian and Tanya.x

They're different clubs, so you can't use the membership card for one club on another. We tried the caravan club last year but weren't impressed so are now trying the C&CC.:)

Thanks for that.just as i thought.Going up exmoor tomorrow for a free camp so will give it some thought before we join.cheers.

both have advantages,so try one this year and the other one next. It all depends what you want

Still prefer wild camping!!!!!!!!

I joined just to access their CL's. Never been to a CC site so cant comment. Their CL's are good though and you get loads of discounts on UK attractions like two for one admisions.

I am a member of the Caravan Club. I have used their Sites, Affiliated sites and CLs never found any problems. Most people are frieldly. Been a member on and off since 1970

Also a Member of The Camping and Caravanning Club. Use their CLs have tried some of their Affiliated caravan sites. I don't think I have used any of their club sites. Again no problems. I have found the standards of the sites lower than those of the CC Joined in 2006

Also a member of the Motor Caravanners' Club. Joined this year to use their CL network. Went to one and was not impressed. Very doubtfull of using any more may not renew next year.

The main purpose of joining these clubs is to have somewhere to go legally and also to make use of the facilities to wash clothes etc.

C&CC v CC

I have looked at both but not joined either yet. A big difference appears to be the number of CL 5 van sites. C&CC claim to have 1,300, CC 2,500, which makes the latter seem more attractive. With 'proper' sites C&CC appear to have 100 and CC 200. All figures from theri websites.

If your into CL's and CS sites then the CC is a good choice. The C&CC CL sites are accesible on the C&CC site to everyone. You dont have to be a member to find them on the website or to use them but the owners are supposed to give you a membership form but they never bother. The CC CL's are members only and you have to have a membership to find them on the website. So, if you want to just use CL and CS sites join the CC.

Sorry for using this thread for my personal grip but I have had bad experiences at sites affiliated with either.

Don't you find too many rules and snobbery? One place enforced (with diagrams) on how far I could park from any other vehicle.

I also find them bland and lacking in character.

Thoughts?

Exactly! Use the CL's, camping like it should be!

Despite being a member of the CC I would never use one of their sites, far too organised and regimented for me. Some people like that sort of thing. Not me.

Being as this is a 'WILD' site, I'm sure that I'm not alone in thinking, sod them, just camp.;)

The CC is terribly posh. When we turn up in our little vw camper we get sniffed at.

No problem at the other club.

Not that I'm that bothered really. I will say that the toilets/showers at the cc clubs are usually very nice.

Different clubs - we are in the c&cc they are the best (for us anyway).

We only use sites if we need to. Our van is self contained but you need to charge the batteries or get fresh water. We are members of both clubs but that might change shortly.

If people are snobs then it is their misfortune. Look at the good company they are missing out on. I must be the opposite as I cannot resist looking at old vans and self builds and getting into conversation with the owner.

I have never had a problem with going onto CC sites. I have had some wrecks of cars towing old caravans and been made welcome.

Being shy and single I did tend to keep myself to myself, so the odd nod or hello was the usual exchanges I would make anyway. Now I have a wife and she is more outgoing and will strike up a converstation from time to time, but we only use the site for a day or two, as we prefere to use a CL or wild.

I do not use club rallies as I feel they are rather cliquish and everyone come for tea when the hooter sounds, types.

Well thanks for the replys people and after alot of of thinking about the ccs and c.ccs we tossed a coin and the outcome was .......we went wilding up on Exmoor for two days instead.whoopie.I like the idea of the CLs as the peace and quiet is more our thing so will give it a bit more thought.Just packing the van again as we are off down Cornwall 2mo for a couple days wilding.Duckpool here we come.:D.thanks again

member of both, have caravan and vw camper. I like the CC for my camper, find the c&cc put you in some pitch at back of site sometimes with the smaller camper even though I have booked a hard standing, they keep hard standings for larger MHs or caravans. Caravan club let you tour the site and pick you pitch.

Sorry just seen your PM. No you cant but you can still use their CS sites and I think normal sites as a non member, presume the actual sites are more expensive if your not a member. I dont use the CC or C&CC campsites just the CL and CS's so there is no need for me to join both. The cc you have to be a member to use their CL's and the C&CC you dont.
