What does the V5 say?Just out of curiosity, is there a difference?
I always kinda assumed littles ones were campervans and big ones were motorhomes, no idea if thats correct and if so where the cut off is
Could be a hint of tongue in cheek snobbery? :drive:
I thought that a coachbuilt is a motorhome and a van conversion a campervan.
I usually refer to my vehicle as a 'van.
There are many names: van conversion, caravanette, camper, motor camper, RV, motorhome, campervan, truck camper and motorcaravan. I am sure there are others.

Mine still says van but hopefully that will have changed when i get around to finishing it. I think the dvla then reclassify it as motorised caravan. So they are sitting on the fence.

We've got a Kontiki motorhome and often joke when friends call it a campervan with our reply being "motorhome darling..motorhome"!!! :lol-053:
It's just a bit of tongue in cheek snobbery!!! Like you, we always refer to it as "the van"!
For the DVLA to change the classification on the V5 it must meet certain criteria, one of the main ones being that it must actually look like a motor caravan from the outside, ie, windows, service hatches/vents, livery etc.
The advantages of having it registered as a motor caravan is that it then has a class 4 MOT, which is cheaper than a class 7 commercial vehicle. Cheaper motor insurance is also likely.
Sorry, this is incorrect,I have a 7500Kg ex prison lorry, converted to motorhome. The V5 is for private heavy goods, the MOT is class 4, based on the fact that the inspector can clearly identify that it is fitted out as living area. Insured as self build motorhome.
Also the DVLA are not responsible for MOT classification, that is the remit of VOSA.
