2 people had to be rescued from the roof of their camper.
they parked for the night on the river shannon esturary & the tide came in around them.
2 fire brigades & a lifeboat went to them & the shannon based helicopter was on standby ready if needed.
it pays to look around & size things up before you decide to stay.

Spot on. We arrived late at night to a poi darn sarf, can't remember the place now but it was as black as Hades and very tricky getting to it. It was beside an estuary at the end of a very narrow road with over hanging branches. We got to the end and I got out, shone the torch and to my horror, we were parked on a wooden jetty that had seen better days, either side were mud flats. Thinking that we could reverse up the road a little, I walked about 50 yards and there was flotsam and jetsam strewn about and beyond that were peoples driveways. We did a quick reverse into one of the drives and skedaddled off. We then spent our worse night wilding ever, parked in a narrow layby on a very busy A road carrying haulage lorries all night. Absolute nightmare.
The POI has now been removed so peeps needn't worry about using the same spot.

We now never look for a place after dark, even if we reccy it first. What seems obvious and stands out in daylight changes completely at night and the chances of finding it again can be very difficult.
