Campers found sleeping on car roof in Portinscale Keswick !

It looks like the polis told her that you can legally sleep on the roof of your car wherever you like! but not in a motorhome presumably...

Looks like more bullshit biased reportage to me, 2 blokes asleep in that position in broad daylight just doesn't ring true to me, plus surely the "huge" bags of rubbish would be an offence? Police have already stated its a £500 fine for camping etc in the area so why not this time?....

Well I might buy a big car with a flat roof that’ll solve the height barrier problem.😂

And As Debroos post above

in the Newspaper article

"I rang the police but unfortunately because they hadn’t done anything wrong – apparently you can sleep on your car wherever you want – and hadn’t committed an offence there was nothing the police could do about it,” said the woman' and they left black bags full of rubbish so is that not flytipping?

So why are cars exempt from sleepovers but Motorhomes and Campervans are not?

I think that’s the standard police answer. “There’s nothing we can do about it”
Last week, my daughters next door neighbour had a loud music and shouting party from 4pm to 4 am with over 30 people in the house and 8 cars outside ( so, more than two households meeting! )
The police weren’t interested even though there was a clear COVID guideline breach as well as the noise nuisance. .
“ There’s nothing we can do about it” they said.
Thankfully, my daughter has now moved house.

Typical innit, the law is only valid against people who choose to abide by it....

Great idea Annie maybe a Business Oppurtunity for a new style of campervan a car with seats removed and full cooking facilities etc all inside the only stipulation would be to fit the beds on the roof. Also no rubbish collection facility required just keep a supply of black bags on board then dispose of it as you pull away in your "car camper" by leaving at side of road. Then it seems we could legally (according to the lakes police)sleepover anywhere we liked.Dont know what would happen when it P$$ssed with rain though.

They probably have a fully equipped Motorhome with toilet, shower, cooking , and sleeping facilities, and had been told to move on the night before. They're fine now, all legal and above board :D :D

Wonder what would of been said if they had pitched their tent on top of the car, like you can on some vehicles?
Have a friend who puts a pop up 2 seconds tent on his roof rack, much cheaper than a roof tent and folds up a lot smaller.

Don't think anyone has said anything, apart from him when we try and push it off during the night. :)

Probably told to move on as then they would be "Flycamping" so after "flytipping their black bags they would need to go.
