Just sold the camper for £1750 less than what we paid for it, happy with that. It would have cost us £20k to hire a 7m motorhome and nothing to show for it other than great memories.
Only one day left in NZ then off to Oz where we hire a mh that is costing us £1374 for just one week.
Moral of the story - if staying for a few weeks or months then buying and selling is definitely the better option. I know one member on here, when in NZ, made a profit on his mh when he sold it.

Next trip, we will buy a 4x4 Ford Explorer or similar and do the back country unsealed roads, which we are told are on another level of awesomeness.

Gonna miss our Lou and NZ that's for sure. 😢

Given the generally addled state of your thought processes, try not to be spooked by the kangaroos. They are not simply very large bouncing mice.

Glad to be of assistance.

Cheers

I got kicked in the wallaby's the first time I came across a big red. Horrible nasty things they are.

As an aside.

We hitched around Oz for 6 months in 1980. We camped and cooked food on the open fire or BBQs when we came across them. The cheapest steaks were roo steak. The butcher would ask us what type of dog we had when ordering roo, the look of disgust when we told them they were for us and not for a dog!
Now roo steak is trendy and expensive.
How things change.

We met a guy who was a French chef around 30 years ago in Flinders Ranges campsite. Got talking about Roos... I'll cook you one...best thing we have ever eaten.. black on the outside and rare inside...i can still taste that now.

Brilliant result I would say. Its been an epic adventure for you. Enjoyed watching and reading it unfold.

Reminds me of the yank on a bus tour in oz, as the bus left the city the driver announced that on the left was the tallest building with 30 floors high, yank said my son has a bigger tree house in the garden, silence, further on out the drives stated o the right we have the largest inland dam holding water for the city, yank again spoke up saying we have a larger fish pond in the back garden, silence, on well out in the country the driver again piped up, this is the largest mountain range we have and well over 3000ft high, yank again blurted out, listen we have a larger one at the back of us where my son skies down in winter, just then a roo bounces out across the road into the scrub, yank jumps up and says what in gods name was that, only a small grass hopper exclaims the pissed of driver. 😂

An alternative to regular hire companies is https://www.camplify.com/ where you can hire privately owned vehicles.

Our two week hire out of Queenstown was about half the price of commercial companies. There was not a lot of choice around Queenstown but currently looking at Melbourne for the end of the year and there are loads.

If your looking for some coastal stops “Trip in a van” on ytube have had some epic camps round the coast of Oz.
