camper for kids

My kids are both at uni (19 & 20) - don't need a car whilst away but keep them on my car insurance so they can potter about when they are home (hardly ever these days). Insurance just gone up to over £1k 3rd party only- which is stupid money considering full no claims and car only punto and not worth much more. Without them could get full comp for about £140. Thinking of getting them a car between them and keeping it on sorn most of the year but then thought camper would be more fun and prob cheaper on insurance too? Only prob son is 6ft 6in - any suggestions / ideas
Cheers Lisa

There was a thread on another forum recently and it appears to be impossible to get insurance for a m/home if you are under 25 years old. You could get the insurance but they would not be allowed as named drivers.

I agree, you won't get insurance for them.

When I renewed my insurance last summer I tried to put my son on it - I never even got round to explaining he was a 17 year old learner, first question was "is he over 30? We don't cover drivers under 30".

I've also read posts on various forums from young people asking if anyone knows a company that will insure them as they've tried all the usual ones.

A friend of ine (who's 22) has just insured his Bedford CF Autosleeper with Peter Best Insurance for £152 fully comp.

Whilst that sounds like the most wonderful idea - I think the ready made option would be better for us - due to lack of skills, time, ideas, patience (need I go on?)
Is it complicated to get a self build insured???
Thanks for post though
Lisa

hi I've built and insured four over the years, its surprisingly easier than it looks. take a look te the club site, there's some good examples built by many different people from many different walks of life, with and without previous skills.

good luck with which ever you choose.
