I'm looking for somewhere secure to store my camper for 3 months over winter. In Glos or Bristol area

If you're a member, many of the Camping and Caravanning Club sites offer winter storage. You could also try the CaSSOA website (clicky link) to find a CaSSOA-registered storage facility.

Make sure it's left on tarmac or hard standing, not grass!, that speeds up the rusting process.

And jack it up or the tyres will be squared off and crack, best to rest on blocks and store wheels inside her, remember to remove batteries and put them on a float smart charger, that includes the starting battery.

Dont forget to de tax it,, by sorn..
That depends on the T&Cs of the storage facility. For example, mine insists that my van is fully taxed and insured at all times, so I couldn't SORN even if I'm not going to use the van for a few months.

They don't have keys to my van and say they won't move it. I suspect they really want the van to be insured while stored and the tax requirement is because some insurance policies are invalid unless the vehicle is taxed. That said, we use the van during winter as a mobile observatory and so wouldn't SORN anyway.

I'm not sure what's cheap. I pay £350 pa. is SE Cornwall and I'm happy with that. I know of three storage facilities that are more expensive -- but they're all CaSSOA Gold while the facility I use isn't CaSSOA registered.

I know this has been said before, and I know that using the van in winter is not for everyone. But we love going to places in winter when it’s nice and quiet. We chose carefully when and where to go, and tend not to go out for for more two or three nights at a time if WC. We have an 8 day trip planned for Chester and Braithwaite village in the Lake District in December. When we told another camper we were coming back to Braithwaite in the winter, she looked at us as if we had horns coming out of our heads.

I feel with what we pay for our vans leaving them out of use for months at a time is simply madness, and nothing beats a good frosty winters day in a place which in summer is heaving is in winter nice and quiet. I know it’s not for all, but I am astounded at how many don’t use their vans all year round.
