Hi,
This year we stayed in France & after spending a week meandering down to Narbonne we spent another week followed the 75 mile cami dels bon homes “ route of the good men” to Foix. The good men, and women, were the Cathars, a religious sect that believed in living a simple life, behaving piously & in treating all men as equal. Naturally all this goodness annoyed the Pope & the Catholic church to such an extent that the Pope sent out a crusading army with instructions to eradicate these heretics. The Cathars were finally wiped out in about 1320.
All that is left are ruined castles “chateaus” perched high in isolated mountainous terrain. Wonderful for walking, photography & relaxation.
Photos are of the best 4 we visited.
Photos show view from car park up to castle – then from castle down to car park - You need to look for the blue campervan. This illustrates the amount of walking/ hiking involved should you wish to do the same trip yourself. Incidently, no problems about staying overnight in the car parks. The final one is in the town of Foix which has a free Aire.
Bon chance Mon braves !
