Cameron McNeish on no camping zones

Thanks for posting that, we do have a bit of a problem with Aires and sites as since 2006 when we started we have never used any, (I lie, we did stay on Sligachan on Skye one year in winter when it was closed but we don't count that :) ) we 100% wild camp, we have found our own secluded little spots where we are usually out of sight, I regret to say that the success of WC may be part of the problem, not the regular posters of course, but ones who join, get the app and the POIs and don't understand that there is an etiquette to follow when you go off in their vans, I have to wonder what type of person empties their cassette at the side of the road, waste water is not so much an issue as it is mainly water and bits of food which will be scavenged or simply broken down and disappear, but cassette dumpers are animals beyond contempt, and are our biggest enemy.

Why would anyone want to pee or s-it behind a wall when you have a loo, unless their in day vans which are useless for wilding

Cameron was referring to ANYONE without toilet facilities.
Day trippers, campers, those in camper vans without toilet facilities would make up a small minority. We all need toilet facilities regardless of travel mode. What Cameron was highlighting was the absurdity of promoting something like the NC500 whilst removing toilet facilities.

Whether camping in a tent or massive RV your own common sense and decency should prevent you from disposing of ANY waste in an unsuitable place. It’s not that difficult, even if multi day camping, to securely store it and take it home with you, or to a suitable disposal site. That might in some cases burying it in a suitable place too!
Sadly, the people that don’t dispose of waste correctly don’t have the slightest interest in reading, listening to or taking any notice of Cameron, me, or anyone about it. They will do exactly what they want and sod everyone else! If it stops wild camping they will do that to if that’s what they want to do.
Selfish, thoughtless, t&-ts have always been out there. If you see them doing it, have absolutely no guilt about taking their van details, a film/picture if possible and reporting them to the police. It won’t stop it, but you are helping catch those you see.

AS far as vans go this seems to be the problem.

Does anyone recall the government advice about using shower/bath and washing up water to water plants when we had the drought a few years ago? I don;t have a problem with that although to a house owner that might look bad but really isn't cassettes are, of course, a wholly different matter.

And if they ban us from wild camping, they will still have waste to deal with.
It's infuriating reading articles when we are mentioned alongside these morons.
I am not saying that it's never happened, just its far more likely not to be us.
When I plan any trip I always do what 99% of us do, and factor in stops to empty our cassette and grey water.

Many CLs tell you to dump near a bush.
So long as you are discrete, and depending on where you are I have no issues with it.
But I have seen idiots leaving their valve open and dumping it in urban carparks.
Its all about perceptions, and right now we are struggling on that front thanks to the media.

All it needs really is a bit of infrastructure in each town to village to have a place to empty, charge a little to cover it and the problem will largely disappear, you will still get cretins who just don't care, but what I cannot get my head around is the fact that okay there will be groups of lads who may think nothing of dumping wherever they like, but I reckon that most will be couples on their holiday in whichever type of camping arrangement they have, do they just turn a blind eye, Liz would take my head off if I even suggested it.

Dead right - it is all about the 'onlookers views' that so easily get wrongly put on facebook or similar where the facts get in the way of a good story.
I have a similar problem, in that I need to fill a (single) jerry can with fuel for my chainsaw - you can bet I will get a few dirty looks at the garage.
