Hi to all, this is just a heads up.
A couple of weeks ago, we were booked in for a few nights at a site near York. To cut a long story short, the vans cambelt cut loose..luckily I was only doing 30 mph at the time it broke.
Thanks to the AA we were back home at 8pm, with the broken van outside our house.
The next day, I stripped the head off..some damage. 2 exhaust valves bent, 1 inlet, 1 exhaust valve guide knackered...Luckily the pistons & cyl head wer'nt damaged.
150 quid later, the van is back on the road..A weekend trip to a cl near Lincoln went without a hitch.
The moral of this is if you dont know when your cambelt was changed, do it now.
Mine was changed 5 years ago when I rebuilt the engine.( 4 years 8 months ago)
The service intervals say 70,000 miles or 5 years...mines done 55,000 miles in that time. I knew the job needed doing before next summer..Maybe I was unlucky.
Take care folks,
dogseal.
