For those of you who use facebook.
Others Calum built this road by himself.
The article also highlights that....the landowners cleared the crofters to make more money from shooting parties etc

It's a place I keep meaning to visit but haven't got round to yet.

I've often looked across the Inner Sound from Applecross to Raasay and longed to visit.

Visited Last month, Walked up Dun Caan then drove to end of Calum’s road, How the guy managed it with a pick & shovel, I will never know. It is a very twisty hilly drive not really suited to a big van. There are fantastic views both around the island & across to Skye.

My wife tells me that I may have it wrong regarding the Croft restoration. She doesn't think it was Calum's grandson or his croft but somebody else doing a restoration of an old croft which was shown in the same program.

I can't for the life of me find what the program I watched was though. I expect Julie will later though just to prove me wrong!

I've found the program I watched now, it was on BBC Alba which I often watch. It was called 'Rathasair (Raasay)' but sadly it is no longer available on BBC Iplayer.

There is a good program here Rob called lesser spotted ulster, worth a watch

Been up and down the east side of Raasay when we had our boat, there are some lovely beaches and sheltered bays. A true story from years ago, Raasay Sound is a test firing site for torpedoes to check their guidance, it was fisherman/crofter found a torpedo washed up on a beach, he hid it, then demanded a finders fee from the MOD. I can't recall the final outcome, it a funny story that made all the papers at that time.
