Anyone else having problems getting Calor gas. Went to my supplier today and they are sold out with a waiting list which I have just joined. Apparently Calor are having issues.

What size bottles?

I had heard this and when I spoke to a local Agricultural Wholesaler a couple of weeks ago I asked them if they had any supply problems with Calor and they said it was (at the time anyway) limited to "patio" gas bottles for people - I guess for people who want to have people round but not allowed/don't want to have them inside?

6kg red bottles

if you are stuck and passing my way, I have an unused and full 6Kg GasFlow bottle you can take and bring back when empty so I can return to supplier.

Thanks David. We have a full 13kg bottle and don't plan another trip till next week for two nights.
I just wondered if this is a nationwide issue.

Apparently its been going on for months, my local dealers are tearing their hair out. Calor say its to do with Covid/staffing and a shortage of bottles following the surge in summer demand, bbq's new caravans motorhomes etc. Dealers say rubbish, Calor is a Dutch owned multi-national which should be able to plan ahead. Most dealers can supply large propane cylinders but 6kg and 3.9kg are in short supply. I managed to get the last one from a mid-Cheshire dealer last week. My alternative supplier hasn't seen a full 6kg propane for weeks despite having lots on order. The moral is get one if you see one, I've had my empty cylinder rolling around in the car boot for nearly a month.

Strange. I bought a new Motorhome within the last month. Never had a need for gas cylinders beforehand so never looked at this area.
When I had a empty 13Kg Calor bottle about 3 weeks ago, I just swapped it for a full 6Kg at my local supplier. Just rocked up and asked for an exchange.
I also bought a full 6Kg Flogas Cylinder on the same day from the local Flogas seller (who, BTW, is not listed in that flogas stockist list). still have the 1/2 full 6kg calor cylinder in the shed. maybe I should use that up and get a new one while I still can??

I know when we have bought gas refills in London you feel like a second class citizen. :(

We have bought a lot of gas bottles in west Sussex and received much better customer service. :)

Spot on, that's exactly what I have been told. Bad forward planning by Calor. Called at a local caravan dealer a few weeks ago - no they didn't have any, and told me there were none to be had anywhere. Popped round to my local gas dealer - they had ordered 30 the day before, had been sent 5 that morning, luckily still 2 there, so I got one.
As well as not reacting to increased demand for Patio Gas, and "caravan/motorhome sized" bottles, Calor haven't put any extra 6 Kg in to the system to replace all the Calorlite bottles which they have recalled; I have swopped 2 of those back this year and I expect many more have as well.

Calor have been having problems since somewhen last year.
It seems they have been concentrating on patio gas and bottle refurb rather than refill the every day bottles.
Plus according to the chap In was speaking to, the local re-fill depots have closed.

One garage I went to offered to swap my Calor bottles for Flo-gas which is cheaper and a hidden bonus is
you can change sizes without cost unlike Calor who want to charge for standing there. No contract signing either
Flo-gas say bottles within the same grouping can be changed around. IE 6kg change to 11kg etc & vice versa.

When I was looking into this as a first-time gas user, I found that Calor do exactly the same as you describe Flo-gas as doing i.e. change cylinder size within the same grouping without a charge. What may be different and maybe inconvenient is the way the groups are arranged?
I changed from an 11Kg bottle to a 6Kg bottle and they ARE in different groups. However the charging is likely at the discretion of the Seller and they didn't charge me anything to change size.

When I got a flo-gas 6Kg bottle I didn't get charged to swap groups either as I didn't get charged for anything other than the cost of the gas. Again seems to depend on the vendor how they manage their business - my seller seems to be happy to work on trust and asked for the bottle back when empty rather than demanding rental payment up front.
