Great news for all of those who have to use small cylinders, but this looks like a real shambles. There is still a shortage of cylinders for those who don’t have empties. My garage reports that this could go on for another 6-9 months. The problems with Calor gas was one of the reasons I went for a diesel heater. Also with 13kg cylinders coming in at £52 it’s not a cheap option.

How much gas do you tend to go through? might be worth getting a Gaslow type setup and a single bottle?
I think my 11KG Gaslow Bottle and Filler worked out to around £120 secondhand which was pretty good.

David with a diesel boiler, I don’t think it will amount to much gas now. We will be using diesel to heat the van and water now.

Very true. makes sense to go Diesel heater for ease of supply regardless.

I doubt if I have spent the cost of my Refillable system with actual LPG refills let alone actual savings compared to bottles (but I don't use my Motorhome anywhere near enough!).

That’s a real shame David, hopefully you will get out more in your van. 🤞

£37 for gas here, or was last summer, 2/3 years back it was £27 ish, all down to covid im told. 😂

That's great news but they don't make it easy do they. Can't find a mention of it anywhere on their website.
At the moment they are only available from official calor distribution centres. I have been getting my 3.9Kg 's from Carlisle over the last year. You have to ring for an 'appointment' to collect them (on exchange). Max 2 per customer.

Gosh what a dogs breackfast! I changed to a refillable bottle from the place in Thirsk because they withdrew the 3.9s! It is much cheaper but the smaller size meant it needed refilling quite a lot more and many garages refuse to do itbelieving it unsafe. Either that or the low amount means they cant be bothered! Anyway I will fill my calor and keep in the van for emergencies when I cant find agarage willing to refill mine.

It also caused big problems getting the 6kg cylinder as people who had the space upsized.

No doubt Calor have quickly realised that the empty cylinders are not 'being returned for destruction' and they can't police the opportunist 3.9 and 4.5 cylinder refill businesses that have sprung up, and stung by the small cylinder gas sales they have handed on a plate to Campinggaz.

What a shambles! I had 5 x 3.9kgs at the start of the year and traded them all in to Calor at £7.50 each.
i doubt I’ll get replacements at a similar cost!

P.S. I gave up on Calor and invested in 2 x Safefills…. Saved a fortune on gas refills already!

When we did ROI we only found one place that did 6kgs Calor Propan despite ringing around and asking wherever we were, stupid policy with no forethought.
Seen loads i a garage up norf when you were here, but you kept moving and hiding from me so i could not contact you, no idea why. 😂

When ordering the new van I eventually decided to have a Truma diesel combi fitted instead of a gas/electric. And I have found the diesel heats our van quickly as well as the hot water. Our van can take two 13kg cylinders but I am happy with our 13kg and 6kg. When hooked up to EHU we use a small fan heater, I felt the additional cost of £650 for a diesel/electric was poor value for money. Also I found that in winter you could not heat our previous van using only electric. Calor gas prices have increased so much since we started in 2016. Then a 13kg was only £33 now it’s £52.
But apart from the cost implications I felt that it was getting more and more difficult to source gas. Also it appears that the combi boiler uses very little diesel.

We changed on of our 3.9kg for a flogas which are readily available locally. We do have one calor left which we are using at the moment. They last us about a year (only for a two ring hob) so will see what the position is when it is empty. TBH they are so unreliable that we will probably change anyway! They don't deserve to still be in business after the debacle over last few years!
