One curiosity on the new Calmac website Official Caledonian MacBrayne Hebridean & Clyde Ferries site
When you book tickets on line and choose the option "Motorhome" a drop down menu gives length options in increments of half a metre. Usually the choice is "up to 5m", "5m. to 8m" etc. which has always annoyed me in that I pay for a 5.5 exactly the same as an 8m.
I'm not sure if this means Calmac will be charging more precisely to length as, at present, the choice of varying lengths does not affect the ferry cost finally given.
Seems an odd concept if it's not implemented

Maybe its just for the numbers of vehicles they can get on the ferry.

A good thought...except it's unknown to my local port who say they haven't received any such data with bookings. The trusty tape measure still rules!
