We have had our 2009 Adria Twin campervan for six and half years and are now looking to replace it, and we thought the new one would be another panel van conversion. In Lincoln last weekend for the Camper UK event we visited their showroom but they only had two PVCs, both Carthago Malibu, so no different to ours. We told the salesperson that we did not want longer than 6m and they said what about the Geist Explorer 585 A class – impressive what they got in the space but not an impressive layout. We said anything else and they said the Burstner Ixeo 586. We met a couple with one and there was also a 2015 one on site. Very impressed with the layout – good size: kitchen, toilet/shower and lounge/dining area - achieved through having an electrically operated drop down bed.
We do end up going down narrow country lanes with the hedges brushing both sides of the Adria Twin, but the Burstner is only 250cm wider. Not sure how the mirrors figure in the width, so will take our own measurements.
The Adria Twin has masses of storage space, including under the fixed bed. The Burstner is not bad and if an under-slung refillable gas tank is fitted that would free up the gas locker for storage.
The Adria Twin is a big white box and whilst not a stealth camper is reasonably unobtrusive. The Burstner, like a lot MHs today, looks quite blinged up with contrasting body colours. Also someone in the marketing department had verbal diarrhoea when they came up with the alphabet soup on the side of the van – see photo. I wonder if I can order a plain white one.
Has anyone got a Burstner Ixeo Time it 586 Sovereign (to give it its full name)? How is it?
Are there any alternatives with a similar layout? Had a look at the Hymer Van online but it’s a rear fixed bed like ours.
