Hello everyone,
I am fairly new to thi site although i did use it a couple of years back when i went to Cornwall for a few days, anyway i am off to Brighton to watch Beady Eye in April and wondering if it is still fairly safe and ok to park up on Madeira Drive (i think i've got it right?). Any advice? Cheers everyone, Dave

Stayed there for one night at the end of October, the signs indicate that it is reserved for coach parking but the 'controlled hours' are from 10am to 6pm so we assumed that it was ok to stay there outside those hours, which suited us fine. No problems.

still a few vans locally to us in Hove near King Alfred on seafront.. 11 hour day parking there.. and an easy bike ride along the prom into town...

The best place to wild camp is in the long entrance road to the CC site in Sheepcote Valley.

It's near Lidl's behind the marina of Wilson Road. I think it's called Rebecca Drive but it's the access road between the council run parks.

No parking restrictions there at any time (at the moment!!) Brighton Council have an annoying habit of gradually slapping more and more yellow lines or residents bays on any spare piece of tarmac they can find.

Is this the place Wilson Avenue, Hove - Google Maps ?

Yes that's it mate. Parking at the end of Madeira Drive is still tolerated, unless of course you turn up en masse with tippers and caravans and then it isn't!

B***dy Brighton!

Sheepcote valley is typical CC site - impossible to book for any weekend for the next 12 months. "But oh, keep phoning as we get cancellations". No sh*t Sherlock - thats bacuase CC have a crap booking system and don't take deposits!

I love wild camping, and I'm happy to pay at Sheepcote to allow us to have a few long days there without worrying about the van. But god they make it tough to get in and force to Wild...

Next time I call I'll say "OK - you are full, can you look out onto the road and see if there is space to wildcamp outside?"

Well I had the last laugh.
Managed to get the days I wanted at Sheepcote, and they made a pricing error - paid £33 for 3 days/nights there :)

Wild camping rife on both POIs in database, though the road to Sheepcote is now HEAVING with parking. Also ancient/wrecked caravan and a wildcamper or two with open waste and big gennies outside. Not much better (if any) than the ***** caravan "wild camper" on Marine parade with gennie, large gas bottle, and obligatory ford transit and 5 kids.

Hmmm.
