Breathalyser Kit required in France..??

It may have been mentioned on the forums and I've missed it, I heard a snippet on the radio saying motorists have to carry a breathalyser kit in their vehicles as from the coming weekend....anyone know more about it?

No you need to carry two in case you use one, you would then be breaking the law as you would not be carrying one.

just been all across france 2000 miles and took the triangle and hi vis jacket etc etc didnt see one police car!!
Motorcyclists have been told to wear Hi Vis jackets at all times and again not one wearing it.

As from 1st July you are required by law to carry an * ALCOOTEST* (French spelling) kit in your vehicle, this has been delayed until 1st November as manufacturers cannot supply kits for the original start date.
Most supermarkets sell them altho I have been trying to buy some for the past month without success as they have been sold out.
I have been told you can buy them at the English side of the tunnel, don't know about the ferries, but assume the same for them.
Would advise buying 2 as you must have one in your vehicle at all times.
As for not seeing any Traffic Police, rest assured you will find them stopping all foreign registered vehicles at or near all arrival ports?borders.

I can see the purpose of having an alcohol level monitor built into the vehicle which disallows use of the vehicle if blood alcohol level is too high but what use are these perishing things?

The problem with that is when a drunk gets his sober mate to blow into the meter before driving off.
