Before we went on the Xmas Meet at Carrog, Betws y coed and Millers dale, we had thought of going to Breamar. Really pleased we didn't now due to the fact that on the 29th December, the temperature fell to a record -29deg.
Anyone up at Breamar then? if so how did you manage?

Happy Camping:)

According to the BBC Scottish news last night the temp in Braemar was down to -18.7ºC on 29th Dec, and not as cold as -29ºC. Was not there at time but I guess it felt a tad chilly!:D

Quite right bevdrew, tapped the wrong key:eek: meant to put -19deg in, but it was still too cold for me in the MH. Well spotted, thanks.

Happy Camping:)

We went to Grantown-on-Spey Site for New Year. You have heard of people digging themselves out, ]WE HAD TO DIG OURSELVES IN. None of the pitches/site roads had been cleared of snow. The pitches were 3ft deep.
It took 3 of us to clear 2.1/2 hrs to clear 3 pitches by snow shovel. Lowest temp was only -11 dgs., but it was still a fun break. We are all m/homers
and 60+ young.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE & ALL. GOOD CAMPING/TOURING FOR 2010.

Stayed there last August, nice little place isnt it.

Where do others stay.

We parked just across from a big main hotel - opposite a post office/paper shop.

Wouldnt want to be there in all that snow/cold.

We were there from 27th to 29th. Stayed at the CC site on the Glenshee road in Braemar. I met the warden as I was leaving for the ski centre at 7.45 on the morning of the 29th and he told me that the temp was -17 at that point. No doubt it had gone a bit lower during the night.
My wife and daughter slept in the van with 2 electric heaters and the blown air running. They both had hot water bottles too, as the temp in the van fell to a low of 2 degrees in the night. I however slept in a tent outside, (two high spec winter sleeping bags, one inside the other, and a full set of thermals!) I was very cosy and enjoyed the experience, however there were three other tents on the site too.
The site is amazingly well set up for the cold weather and the facility block is really warm, with drying rooms, a fresh and waste water room and a common room for keeping warm in the evenings if you need it.

It may yet happen, watch this space!

Braemar has long held the title of Scotland’s coldest village after thermometers there dropped to a teeth-chattering -27.2C on February 11, 1895, and again in January 10, 1982.

After reading all the replys so far, I think I will stay as a spring to autumn visitor. What a lovely place to visit, I usualy stay on the car park opposite the local Police station. This a couple of mins walk to the Hotel:D
It's on the news again just now 10pm, down to -10deg so whatch this space.
For me Breamar as everything, walking, scenery, social life, peace and quiet, fishing etc etc. What a place to visit.
The Scottish Tourist Board can send the cheque in the post;)

Happy Camping:)

We stayed at the CC site in Braemar 2 years ago in February. Daytime temps for the week never got above -5, and for 3 consecutive nights were hovering around -15.
Brilliant sunshine all week. I barbequed most days whilst the caravanners watched me through their windows. I think I disturbed their afternoon soaps !
Or perhaps I was part of it.

regards
Allen
