Hi all, by chance I am going to Europe for a week and needed to check my breakdown cover that I got through a very well known TV add company. Luckily I checked as the company said they dont cover motorhomes so Ive been driving around for six months with no valid cover. Of course this being the UK when I asked for a refund this was declined as I had purchased the cover "fraudulently". How I dont know as I went through the companies web site but again as its the UK we get used to being screwed by large corporations, pay lots, crap service, big profits so hey ho!. Anyway, I just wondered whats the best legit breakdown cover? Theres loads out there. Im in the Camping and Caravan club so ill check there. I suppose out of every cloud theres a silver lining so glad I found out. The RAC through the club and whilst excellent is more than my motorhome insurance! I only want breakdown cover away from home, home start, towing and Euro cover for a week

It depends how big and heavy you are, if you are small and petite shopping will be easier.

Hi,
I have found the Camping & Caravan Club the most reasonable for both, some of the quotes I received from other insurers were horrific when I tried changing.

For UK use it appears you should be covered by standard RAC policy, use abroad for 1 week and it should be cheapest to buy cover for just the one week, this could be with RAC or anyone else doing it.

p.s. for UK cover I've done a quick check and RAC for one vehicle with home start, roadside, and tow home is £99/year, for personal cover two people and the above in any qualifying vehicles it's £155/year.

Worth checking that your bank account doesn't include cover.

Mine covers me for any vehicle up to 3500kg anywhere in Europe.

As a Silver RAC member we get 12 months UK and Europe cover for any vehicle and any age(trailers not covered)for the two of us for £155.It is fantastic cover and when we needed it in Germany 2 years ago when the T4's clutch went they were brilliant,i cannot praise them enough.

Hi all. Just checked with the RAC.
Roadside recovery £58.40
Tow anywhere £51.09
Alternative Accommodation ill sort myself
Home Start. Not needed as its never stored at home. Its miles away
Battery cover. Not needed I carry a charged spare
Euro Cover £96. Im only going once!
Number of people to cover. Only I drive, missus never uses it.

Does this look reasonable? Thats about £200 with just me covered.

Always read the small print.

Annual Comprehensive provides cover for one year but each journey must not exceed the maximum period of up to 90 days.

Many breakdown policies are fundamentally for cars so as recommended above ensure that larger and heavier vehicles are covered.
