Adac

Yes, it's ADAC and they come highly recommended. I've been with them for a few years on the recommendation of a friend. Never needed yet thankfully but they seem very friendly and helpful to UK customers. Of course it helps if you can speak German but they will always have an English speaking operator available. AND much cheaper than all the UK based breakdown companies AND it covers you for UK breakdowns too (franchised through the AA apparently!).

ADAC does seem to be the bizzo. Here's the pages in english with the prices of the various packages they offer LINK

We've got ADAC Plus cover.

Used them once. Phone call to Germany from middle of Morocco and they sent a recovery truck 150km to pick us up and drop us 150km away at the Ford dealer at Agadir.

Free!

Covers medical emergencies and return of vehicle to hometown if necessary.

caravan and camping club have a special deal with rac . no weight limit or size .(the name of it as gone getting old. )but it works. arrival. got my memory back. but as said lots of my friends also use adac only ever get good reports and they handle sending parts all over the world to assist in repair and customs duty on spares.

It depends on how long you're going for, we use Brittania Rescue which give 1mth free European cover per year! Far cheaper than adding a month of EU cover to the AA, RAC or CC red penant.

I'm with ADAC but don't know if they are any better than any other breakdown service as we haven't needed to use them. Bit like any insurance you never know how good they are until you make a claim, but haven't heard any bad reports about the service ADAC give.

My van is a 1993 Merc 709D & even though we're members of the C&CC we cannot get breakdown cover as they don't cover over 3.5t,10yrs old. I've been with ADAC £70 (ish) full EU cover but following a thread on the SBMCC it seems that if you insure with 'Adrian Flux' they offer a good deal on breakdown cover as well. The insurance is coming up for renewal so I'm in the process of investigating the best options.

Check that very carefully. Get it in writing. Make sure that it covers repatriation of both the vehicle and you to your home country because I'm fairly sure that it does not. It is cheaper for Flux to write your van off abroad than bring it home.
When Stan was setting all this up between Flux and SBMCC years ago he was having great difficulty with getting things sorted. I don't know how it ended up

I considered ADAC but I didnt like the idea of a 200 euro limit on your initial breakdown tow and the fact that you had to pay for the recovery and claim it back. Yes its true, I have it in writing from them. Plus I think there was a maximum trip limit.

Im with Safeguard. £310 fully comp insurance for 365 days a year in the EU and with 365 EU breakdown cover and recovery.

I too am with Safeguard for the reasons given by the last two posters - it also provided me with the most cost-effective quote overall (£305, which is £15 cheaper than last year!).

Maybe our ADAC Plus cover is different. 300km round-trip in a recovery truck to pick up the Hobby and take us to a Ford dealer to get the ignition keys re-programmed. Just one phone call and a signature when we were dropped off.

No payment asked for or given

Cover in France

Last year we went to France in our vehicle which is over 15 years old and couldn't get cover antwhere in the UK because of the age of the vehicle. Sods Law prevailed and we experienced a breakdown despite taking all precautions.
I have to say If I was going to break down anywhere, France is the place to be. The vehicle is a Renault though. The service was A1, we wouldn't have got that service in the UK. It was cheaper to pay the bill than to mess around with membership etc. That's only my experience though. Good luck in finding good cover.

People keep saying the RAC, AA, Green Flag & Brittania thats all well & good if your rig is under 3.5 ton otherwise they cant tow you.
Mine is 3.85 Bessacarr 765 so they cant accomadate me. So ADAC for me.

On the other subject mentioned re insurance, mine is insured with Discovery Leisure
Fully Comp for £26k much better liabilities than SafeGuard who charged me £420 last year, I have paid £168, ok no breakdown with AA, but they cant tow mine in an emergency so not much use. Good Euro cover with them also.

you can get arrival with the rac if you also join the caravan and camping club. there is no size or weight limit. also you can get commercial recovery. arrival as no age limit either.
