Can any one say from experience whether BP light bottles/cylinders are exchangeable in the European mainland countries (Previous posts say the UK BP light bottles aren’t)

How about Portuguese BP light bottles in Germany for example?

I am basically looking for a pan European bottle with the greatest coverage as the only UK trips I make are to a channel port.

Please don’t mention Gasflow – used that in my last camping car and had to drive hundreds of kilometres in Catalonia to fill up.

BP-light

As far as I know BP-light is sold in Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Denmark Polen and Portugal. BP-light bottles can be also changed in Norway, Sweden and Finland: there is an agreement with local gasdistributors with simular bottles (Aca ...) to accept each ones bottles. However you'll need a local adaptor.

bolttling it-great gas!

:cool:Belgium, France for sure, Germany too I think and likely others now offer varying lightweight bottles 9 le cube @7.5 kilos is a hand small one -the larger size (11kg) from varying bottlers are ALL interchangeable with a snap-on regulator. The 13 kg have a sight guage built in!
I now carry one 13 kg and one le cube and since all are everywhere in France, Bwelge, Germany and maybe further afield by now, i never run-out!

how long are you going for?

have owned our m/h for 12 months and only refilled twice- had no need to look in france over 2 weeks tho had a back up bottle just in case

I carry a total of 4 X 11Kg bottles. 2 German bottles in the locker connected. 1 German in Alu box on the motorcycle rack and the Spanish in another Alu box on the rack. When I reach Spain, I swap one of the German bottles for the Spanish one and work of that. When the Spainish one runs out, I turn on the German one until I get a refill from a Gas station. When leaving Spain, I make sure the Spanish one is full before swapping it over for the German one. Back in Germany I refill when I am ready to return to the UK. So all 4 bottles are always full when i begin my next trip.

A long time!

Well - the last trip was 17 weeks and 8 countries. I guess all future trips probably the same. Had some fun in Greece looking for re-fills and spent a week sans gas using Camp Sites to keep the fridge going.
Found a couple of gas bottle re-fill sites in Greece, and will start a new thread with GPS locations and tips.

However as we returned with a new German cylinder, our old Calor gas and French ButaGas propane cyliners in our locker, things have to change. After much thought I'm going for one Gaslow and either the German or French bottle as we never tour UK.

hi, with fear of getting my head bit off . i would decide what bottles are best for you . then get a filler adaptor off ebay . also get adaptors to adapt it to all your bottles . its possible , i can fill just about all except one of the clip ons . at least then you could fill if you can ,swap if you can etc. i use spanish and moroccan most of the time but can fill both if i need to. also sometimes carry uk and or german . depends where i think i,m going . i also tip one bottle into another if needed . i also have an lpg pump but dont carry it around much now as its abit bulky. cant see the need for gaslow etc .
yes folk will give you lots of reasons why not tofill your own bottles . i have been doing it since 76. be careful all is possible . in german m,home catalogues they sell spring balance scales just for weighing gas bottles . i carry a margarine size tub of adaptors picked up over the years if i need them i use them . if i can exchange i do.cheers alan.
i try to adapt all bottles to one type of regulator that helps as well. saves carrying two of each .

Head bitten off lol ..on a serious not I have never seen the abilty to replensih Bp bottles in France, Belgium or Holland ....but not owning calor lites perhaps I am just remiss in not looking ?

I am currently fiddling with Dutch Propane bottles to give me a start when back in the Uk mid week.

Has you suggest, correct regulator, universal connections seems the answer for those that leave GB and seek a cost effective solution.

hi channa , i cant do 20mm clipons . just havent bought the right connector . have a couple of regs for them but never had a bottle . i know one of the french bottles use them and some uk. .does the dutch propane you have use the normal lh thread butane fitting.?
i will admit to not knowing all the bottles.
i have seen old uk /german etc butane to uk propane adaptors on fes gas site. 7 quid . i had one made but their price is good.
i try to use the old butane or maroc german type regulators . in maroc we buy them with adjuster on the top . helps in fine tuning . but they work with both gases .
what have the dutch ones got ?
always interested.
got one bottle here that was old glogas. a mate got it from anpother mate .it was full nobody could use the gas . it was the big spanish fitting clipon . i got a free bottle of gas ideal.
picked up two full bottles of total gas the other day. someone bought a foreign camper and took the bottles to the dump as its dangerous to use forign gas in uk. another couple of cheap gas supplies hee hee . ideal for france or swap in maroc. does make you wonder sometimes. cheers alan.

Indeed French Lh Thread butane seems to be the gig, What concerns me and certainly nothing with saftey is the performance achieved on butane rather than Propane regulator ..

I have discovered a nest of two fresh bottles time to get my head in gear avoid the ferry companiesscrutiny and have a good xmas dinner lol

You would be amazed what you find in and around mobiles ..;but recycle I must lol

well when you get chance google fes gas or autogas 2000. they do that butane thread to our lpg pol thread you could use a uk propane reg if it bothers you. i fill from that type of adaptor . but thats another thing.
it converts butane to a propane bottle yes!
but try the butane reg first bet you cant tell the difference. go on let us know. think you should let me have them hee hee.

A lot of the mobiles here have butane regulators and seem to run happily on propane.

It really doesnt comes as a surprise, as very few regulators ' lock up' at 28 mbar in my experience closer to 30 -31 mbar which is well within the tolerances allowed. And of course the current European Norm for motorhomes happens to be 30 mbar.

On this particular site, 207 mobile homes, the only quirk in respect of maintenance has been the hig incidence of thermocouple replacement on boilers.

My own thoughts, and shared by the people who have worked the site in the season is it is more to do with the age of the boiler, nothing to do whatsoever with the gas configuration

Here it last! (been sunning it up in Lanzarote & Southern India) my sat nav co-ordinates for a couple of places in Greece that would re-fill.
The 1st at Nafplio is a Gas shop selling anything in a cylinder. Had to wait overnight in the nearby free camping Aire at the harbour for return of my cylinder (French, but all types possible)
This is at N 37deg34’25”, E22deg48’15” Street: Megalou Alexandrou, Nafplio in the Peloponnese.

An LPG garage near Volos North(ish) Greece filled the same bottle without hesitation.
This is at N39deg17’44”, E22deg53’04” address: Komvou Mikrothivon-Volou 30, Nea Anchialos, Greece.

Every body says gas in Patras – no problem. Not true - recently there has been a health and safety scare and not one of the three LPG garages would touch a re-fill. Wasted a day and a half searching there.

Gas in Morocco

Hi as someone who’s very knowledgeable about Morocco can you confirm that the cylinders there need a French tail? – would seem logical due to the former colonial power. Also does one just rollup at a fuel station and rent/buy (& how much?) say a13ltr as in France? Finally what is the going rate for a return fare to Tangiers?
Many thanks
