went to check m/h to find both batteries flat 2 volts, nothing left on any ideas what could cause this to happen?

re.both batteries flat

two and half years old van not sure why both batteries are flat at same time....

Problem I find with batteries nowadays is that they just commit suicide, once apon a time they died gracefully and just got slower so giving you a chance to notice something was wrong but now, no chance.

re.both batteries flat

never made myself clear its leisure and starting batteries that are both flat...

Have you got the standard set up for your van (what ever that might be?) or have you added a b2b or similar?

re.both batteries flat

no alarm fitted, van been lying for three weeks since last used starting battery on charge for 3 hrs but not enough power to work the remote flicker...standard van auto trail imala 615..

Oh yes agreed, 40 years ago you used to get some warning but not now.

About 15 years ago my firm discovered that some of the premium quality batteries they were buying were not performing well and it was down to the build quality of the batteries.

If the voltage was that low, the batteries are now destroyed anyway, however there must be multiple faults for both of them to go flat they are intended to be separate.

I'd be inclined to look at the fuse boxes and see if a particular circuit is showing any signs of overheating - the fuses and terminals are often a tell-tale.

Both dead - whatever is used to provide leisure battery charging via alternator has to be suspect as it would seem that has stuck on (and maybe caused the drain?) unless somewhere the two batteries have been strapped together (not good)
A D+ (alternator run) controlled device should not be on when engine is not running; a Voltage controlled device should have disengaged when voltage dropped below probably 12.8V

Reading something yesterday about testing how many deep cycles a "leisure"battery could cope with. 2 identicle batteries produced results of 30 and 70. The man who wrote the article was calling into question the quality control as both batteries should have returned similar results, not miles app art.

There is a big kick up going on at the main moment with regard to the so called NCC leisure battery scheme it seems to be total bollocks but then if quality control on. British vans that are NCC approved is anything to go by it's not really a surprise that a trade organisation with a vested interest cannot be trusted.:mad1::cry:

Yes, that's The article i've been reading. I'll be honest, I don't understand some of the technical stuff, but the man who wrote it makes it quite clear what seems to be going on, and it appears that that particular organisation are being economical with the truth if they won't release data to back up their claims.

Batteries are only good for about 3 years,if you get longer then its a bonus, only varta/bosch silver frame battery will hold for 5 years at same voltage/output.
To me there is a fault somewhere, start with eng alt but i suspect the on board charging sys has a fault which i would get a new battery and isolate hab charge unit and take readings from engine battery every few days,if ok then get someone to look at hab unit.
A good simple test for a faulty alt is start engine at night and when revved up a bit the lights should brighted slightly,if they flicker or stay the same there is your fault for engine battery.
