Bord Atlas

We have the 2009 Bord Atlas and use it a lot when we go to Austria and Germany in the winter for our ski holidays, would not be without it, we have a Garmin sat nav and it has always got us there first time, sometimes it would like to use a SHORT CUT but we usually ignore those.
Will have to download all the maps from Wildcamping then we will be set for January.

Haven't been to Germany for a couple of years but I've always found the Bord Atlas to be pretty reliable.

Just note that the downloadable map data is just for England, Wales and Scotland.

We use Bord Atlas as Germany is usually were our main holiday spent. The book is excellent and I would not like to be wthout it. However I must agree there ARE some errors in the book and in the POI set downloadable from Bord Atlas, and when you compound those with some of the lunatic directions from our Tom Tom, then it makes for an interesting holiday. Though I never did find the stellplatz near to Colditz Castle and the stellplatz on the Rhein at Cologne proved a nightmare to find due to one of those errors (corrected in the 2010 version).

Sometimes it's better to trust BordAtlas than your own instincts. As we approached the town of Füssen in Bavaria, we came upon two other motorhomes and decided to follow them against the instuctions of Tom Tom thinking they must know a short cut to the stellplatz through town. As we pulled up in a residential street, we soon learned that the couple we had followed lived there and had been to collect their new motohome from the dealers.

The Tom Tom POI sets are available here.

Hello
I travel to Germany several times a year and find the Bord Atlas the best of the many Aires guides I have.
I take it you know that the co-ordinates in the French Aires guide and the Bord Atlas are in a different format. You need to change them in your Tom Tom when you use different guides.
Speaking about Tom Tom the one I have is less than 12months old and the European mapping is years out of date. I think Tom Tom sell new sat navs with old mapping to encourage you to buy the latest maps.

Hello Syldale,
In reaction on your input, we use Bordatlas often for our trips in Germany. Bordatlas is the book to use for motorhome riders. A tip from us is not to rely on one book alone. Use several books and look often on Google Earth to see the stellplatz location is like. If you had installed in your TomTom the POI from Bordatlas you could see before you travel a mile the route to the next stellplatz location if chosen route is correct represented.
The fun begins at home, finding new routes and motor home locations before traveling a mile.

We use Bord Atlas + Garmin. Rarely have a problem except in France where dirt tracks seem to qualify as roads...
