Please be aware that Booths in Penwortham have now erected height barriers due to misuse / overnighting by larger vehicles including motorhomes.

The one in the photo is at the petrol station end by the Breast Scanner trailer, the other entrance is in the process of being installed

Thank You Very Much to all the inconsiderate poppets that have caused this to happen and has buggered us up nipping in there now for items when on the way home in the motorhome, this is only 5 minutes from where we live and was very very handy.

That’s a real bu**er Graham. We drop in there in our van when we’re down as it’s handy for shopping and fuel. Can we still access the fuel station in the van? Luckily we’ve got the car down there next week!
There are some real motorhome muppets around though and they do nothing to get Joe Public on our side. We went to Stonehaven today for coffee at the harbour and a stroll along the boardwalk. The sea front road up near the swimming pool has a stretch where the bays are perpendicular to the sea. A small panel van conversion was parked lengthways taking up 3 of these bays, even though he could have used only 2 by moving forward a bit or even better only 1 by parking like everybody else! I assume he wanted the view through his sliding door. The comments from passing locals were all very critical of this behaviour especially as the parking was full.

HI Tony, yes you can still access the fuel station and as for parking Millbook Way is wide enough where you turn in at the traffic light to accomodate your motorhome but there are now very often vehicles parked there as well because people have started using it as as free parking then jumping on the bus outside the newsagents to get into Preston because of the absolute chaos the centre roadworks are causing and the price of parking there.

A neighbour who works at Booths told me that the final straw was last year when they acquired some of our " travelling freinds ", better not call them what i really think of them who set up camp. They also tried to break into the store, were absuing customers and basically trashed the car park by leaving rubbish all over and emptying cassettes into the very neat little hedges they have around the car park.

Booths management were staggered at the cost of repairs and clean up so they decided that the cost of having these height barriers fitted would soon pay for themselves by not getting the undesirables back on the car park.

Wagon and motorhome that had overnighted there previously had a simple / polite message put on their windscreen informing them it was private property and not to do it again, it seemed to work because they also kept a record of registration numbers and they didn`t come back.

We also see how inconsiderate other motorhomers are who very often say ................................................................... W.T.F. has it got to do with you 🤬

Whether is be stupidity or just simple ignorance they just don`t see what they are dong wrong or probably don`t give a damn.

Simlarly the far end of the docks where the car dealers and Booker ( ex Makro ) are is now another unofficial P&R with the pathments / grass verges full of parked cars as you approch the roundabout, the drivers then jump on a local bus which works out much cheaper than using the proper P&R by Stand Road or any of the city centre car parks.

This forces drivers that have turned into the docks at the lights to come round the bend on the wrong side of the road o_O

All the new park and ride train carparks have put up h barriers here to stop the you know who from making camp, so in fact the normal folk who maybe only have a van and wish to go into Belfast on the train cant do so any longer.

It's the way of the world I'm afraid Graham.

My mates girlfriends dad has been in Hospital for 3 months after having a serious stroke. They have been allocated a disabled parking spot outside their house, his wife drives him around as he can't drive anymore (usually to hospital appointments but the odd trip out to the country as it's just about the only pleasure he has left).

Whilst he has been in hospital a neighbour has been parking in the disabled spot meaning his wife cannot park right outside the house anymore. Now he has come home my mates girlfriend politely asked the neighbour not to use it anymore as they needed close access from the car.

She got a tirade of abuse from the woman who basically said "I will park where the **** I like". The police were called who eventually went round to the womans house and warned her off. It has mostly stopped her for now but she still parks there occasionally. I know what the next step will be if she carries on, my mate will set about her car with a sledge hammer (he has done similar before), but he will be the one in trouble. He doesn't really worry about that sort of thing though.

That’s exactly why I didn’t have a space marked at other house Rob, it instantly invites any disabled driver and council said they wouldn’t police abuse.

Re height barriers, it is exactly the same wherever a barrier is erected it affects someone. Most councils around the country could do something if they wanted to ease the problem with overnighting. This place obviously didn’t realise they could have waited another week and saved their money.

They at least responded. An untaxed car with no MOT parked in my drive, and the police said there was nothing they could do, and I’d have to arrange to get it towed, at my own expense.

I think in that case I would have simply pushed it out into the road and left it there.
We used our town's Facebook page to track down the owner. It turned out to be a misunderstanding but even so ...

Tony, the other entrance ( the 1st one driving down Millbrook Way ) into Booths car park is now complete.

It is ridiculous though that somebody parking on your drive isn't against the law. If you then blocked them in with your car and prevented them leaving, that would be against the law!

Yes, the police officer said similar - I couldn't lock my gate.

No doubt I’ll be taking the FIL to Booths for his heavy shopping (even at 94 he can walk round with his “granny trolley” for lighter items!) so I’ll have a good look at what they’ve done. Luckily we’ll have the car rather than the van with us.

It will be next week Rob don’t worry lol

Strolled through Booths car park today on the way to the Brown Hare for lunch so I could have a look at the height barriers. Not sure if I’d even like to take my car under them, they look pretty low although it states 2.1m!!
I did however notice that there are 4 or 5 bays by the breast screening trailer that seem to be before the height barrier and these were mostly empty.

Tony, that`s where the staff used to park but they`ve been told to park in the main car park now to free up those spaces for larger vehicles

The problem there would be turning round / getting back out again if some numpty parked too close o_O
