Finally managed to book our Eurotunnel crossing, I tried all weekend & couldn't get through, yesterday I got through & they said they said as I was going until February they would ring me back later  they didn't :( In the end I tried again today. Instead of the message that they were busy & to try later I got all sorts of messages, music etc.. but after about half an hour (just as well I get free phone calls) :eek:a real person answered & I got my crossings booked out on the 19th Feb & back on 28th April :):D.
Just need to start thinking about where we are going, at the moment we are probably going to head straight down towards the SW corner of France. If the weather is ok might spend a couple of days at Capbretton then off across Spain to Portugal. Not too bothered where we get to as long as its warmer than here.

Hi

It can be very cold - and wet or even snowy - in northern Spain at the time of year you will be heading there. You might be better off sticking to the coastal lowlands of eastern Spain and heading down to the Costa Blanca/Costa Almeria area, where the weather will be very pleasant. As a general rule, the further west you go the wetter it is likely to be - but most places will be more enjoyable than England in February!

By the way, is there a specific reason why you chose to go via the tunnel? For future reference, the ferries can be less than half the price - we have booked a one-way trip with Sea France for three people in a 7 metre van for £37 in August.

Anyway, happy travels.

We use Tesco vouchers :) cost in vouchers £32.50 worth 4 times the value when used for the tunnel so value £130. Our trip was £66 going out & £61 coming back. Used the tunnel before & found we like it best. We get there a bit early & are usually shoved onto the next available one but we aren't bothered if we have to wait.

I didn't think Spain had 'coastal lowlands of eastern Spain' the Pyrenees are in the east of Spain. Didn't enjoy Spain as much as we have in previous years but enjoyed our first time in Portugal. Weather was also better in Portugal than we had in Spain but we are expecting that it will probably a bit cooler than Spain but the people were so much friendlier. We will cross Spain in about 2 to 3 days at the most (unless we decide to go straight across) & we know a few aires to stop at going along the A-62

Ah - now I understand. We don't shop at Tesco!

Yes, Spain does have eastern coastal lowlands - and the route takes you through fascinating places such as Barcelona, Tarragona and Valencia - all well worth a look round. The Pyrenees are in the north, forming the border between France and Spain and are brilliant at any time of year (the main roads are kept clear even if you find that the snow on either side may be deeper than your motorhome!). I agree that the Portuguese are friendly and welcoming but so are the Spanish if you avoid the obvious tourist traps. And remember that the winter is the time that northern Spain and Portugal gets most of its rain. Still better than England in February, though! Happy travels.

I would call that the southern route myself  as far as Valencia is concerned I either give it a wide berth or stay on the motorway at the max limit after getting our tyre slashed & robbed there . As we are only doing a short trip this time (69 days) I think we will head straight for Portugal this time.

Robbers must have stolen your compass!!! But whichever way up you are holding the map, have a good time.
