Two weeks of relentless rain, hail, snow and wind, two named storms, and another arriving as I type. We’ve steadfastly wound our way across the Borders, up the west coast of Scotland, Argyll and Bute, Mull of Kyntyre, Isle of Danna, got as far as Crinan. The forecast for west coast of Scotland promises two more weeks of the same. Enough!!!!
Our unfinished business with Mull and Skye can wait for more clement times.
We’re heading East for the coast of the Borders and Northumberland and southward where we are promised two weeks of predominantly dry weather with even some sun.
Not having wandered the east coast for some time south of Berwick, can I ask what are the most appealing spots (POIs) to stay at. We don’t much do large towns. I’ve heard rumours that more and more prohibitions have been creeping in of late. Are all the POIs for east coast up to date? Particularly for the Northumberland and North Yorkshire coasts. We may get down as far as Lincolnshire, what’s the coastal area like down that way? Never been there.

No such thing as bad weather in Bonnie Scotland just the wrong clothing.

If you’d seen my photos you would have seen that NE Scotland has been having exceptionally good weather compared with the rest of the country generally speaking over the past month or so. Should have gone east first!

Yes, fancied that one. Are there good walks from there?
Anyone got a comment on Abbey St Bathans?

There is a walk down to the castle, but it is very steep. Don’t know how the path stands up to lots of rain.

Don’t rub salt in it!

Well we’ve made it to Aberlady Nature Reserve, no rain! Sunshine! But it’s blowing a hoolie. Just back from a disorderly stagger to Gullane Point, one step forward, three sideways.
The sight of a blown up pink marigold glove bowling along the beach almost prompted righteous indignation about other folks rubbish, but on reflection it was probably a small dog blown inside-out by the wind.

CR Berwick-on-Tweed (Northumberland) has good views, a bit exposed if it is windy, when we stayed some years ago they were combine harvesting through the night.

We stayed a couple of nights in the CR before you cross the causeway to Holy Island, Lindisfarne - but this is not on the POI map so perhaps not allowed anymore.

Also stayed a night under the light of the Flamborough Head lighthouse, but as above not on the POI map.

Looks like groyne is right.

We were there on Saturday - stopped for coffee and a windy walk exactly as you described while we were on our way from West Wemyss to St Abbs Harbour. I would have no hesitation in overnighting at Aberlady in the small car park at the end of the wooden footbridge - lovely spot. Now at Amble then Tyneside tomorrow.

The coast from Inverness to fort George was nice but I was there 6 years ago.
Below that the cairngorms were good. Just parked up in the walkers car parks.
Went to Scone to see the stone.
The coast road down from berwick on tweed was good and I spent 2 weeks in Northumberland as there was lots to see.
Spent a night in a lay by with a view of alnwick castle but none of the car parks were accessible.

What’s it like at Amble, good spots seem thin on the ground along the Northumberland coast...a presume theres a hostile local authority?

Yes we spent a lot of time up the NE Scotland coast a couple of years back and had good albeit rather cold weather. What were your favourite POIs in Northumberland, we’ve got a couple of weeks to go till we head home.
