Blender for the van.

It looks good but wouldn't chop as fine as the Zyliss and probably as much effort. Are you going to Moffat, Rob? You could have a look/try there?

Yes, I'll be at Moffat Carol.

You can regale me with some soup.

I like a bit of regaling!

What about a mouli blender - the type you use to make baby food? No electricity required. Pop the pulped veg back into the liquid and voila - thick soup.

This one runs is more powerful and will be better for soup. The USB 200w ones seem to be aimed t smoothie making.

The batteries are rechargable from 240v.

You could recharge at home or when on EHU. Charging from an inverter will also be fine because the current draw will be a lot less than 240v blenders.

Whoops forgot the link .....

Looks good, but one reviewer said it takes a bit of elbow grease, so Julie may struggle.

I have a stick blender from Tesco which was a silly price ?£5 ish only 200watts but does not come apart for cleaning. The Russell Hobbs one looks more practical and easy to clean. Great for soup making, I also use a splatter guard following a few incidents where I lifted the blender too far out of the pan and ended up wearing soup! Like this:
Mixing Bowl Splatter Guard Splash Lid No Mess Cover Electric Whisking Blender 2 | eBay
If Julie has trouble with manual chopping a stick blender is probably the best bet
