Blackpool....

Never thought I'd say it but (whispers) we're off to Blackpool for two nights on Fri & Sat this weekend in the camper, has anyone any advice about the light pollution capital of the Uk? We have never wilded at Blacky but have day tripped in the past so the littlens could see the illuminations but this year they have asked if we can cycle through them so it looks like I've got the tagalong on the back of my bike! Any places, even obvious ones, also cheap sites with hook up would do! Thanks guys in advance (hoping!)

Blackpool outing

Hi

Went to Blackpool for an over night in August first out in my van. Parked up on the Prom, in front of the meter just past the pleasure beach. Parking is free after 8pm till 10am, just paid for 1 hour. Next morning decided to take a run up to fleetwood, drove up the promanade, not far past the Norbeck Castle Hotel, you can pull in there on the left, theres another small prom area, & toilets (20p) charge for them. There were serveral motor homes parked up obviously been there overnight.

Good hunting, enjoy the bling!!!!!!!!!

blackpool warning

take care where you park, been to Blackpool
often and Ive been booked often even when other
vans were on the same patch they sneak up
early and stick a fine on the window not a sound
is heard except my cursing
I have parked on the shore front along at St Annes
with out a problem though

We were booked while parked on the front in Blackpool because the tax disc said the van was 'private heavy goods' and according to the small hitler type with the parking tickets,"goods vehicles are forbidden to park on the front" I appealled of course but the little man said I had 'threatened and abused' him so I lost and had to pay up.Another time,on the front again,an 'eastern european type chappie' slammed into the rear of my friends kontiki, which then slammed into us,the kontiki was a write off,the other driver had no licence insurance nor mot,he did not turn up for court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.I hope this does not put you off visiting Blackpool virgil,it has not put us off.

The PLG issue is one I wouldn't have thought about, I will have to check what the camper (I think she's PLG though) is! I think I have spotted the one place by the hotel (Is it by the turning place for the trams?). Thanks folks!

Hi,
I live near Blackpool and theres quite a few places to camp:

Little Bispham
North of Blackpool near Norbreck,
head North along the promenade past Bispham and the Illuminations, past Norbreck Castle (big hotel) then the promenade road splits off left, you can park here overnight no problem without buying a parking ticket and there are Loos (would ony use them during the day though if you know what I mean:eek: )

Rossal Point
Keep going North past Norbreck and Cleveleys staying on the promenade road as far as possible, you will pass a large pub called the Royal and a new cinema complex, eventually you will come to a dead end where you can park up over night, your directly next to the sea here and elevated so have a lovely view of the sea:cool: public Loos near the cinema

If you drive towards Fleetwood from Cleveleys on Rossall Rd (A587) after Rossal School (Big Hogwarts type place) turn left and the road once again follows the promenade round the golf course, theres lots of Laybys and parking areas here that are away from the road and next to the sea, dont think any have P&D machines.

If you would like further info give me a shout, If I think of anymore Ill post em,
PS Great Forum BTW:) :)

Bling bling Blacky...

Just got back from good old Blacky... Glorious weather, phew! The Little Bispham spot mentioned turned up trumps with both evenings patrolled almost continuosly by police vehicles with 10 campers and one trailer tent on the Friday night and 17 (!) campers on the Saturday night! It turns out, one of the officers told us, that the spot is a favourite pickup point for homosexuals but we weren't troubled by anyone on either night!

do you know any sites for wild camping in fleetwood i have a 20 ci any
information would be great thanks

Fleetwood

The is a Fleetwood spot mentioned in reply 6 above!

Hi, Theres loads of camping spots in Fleetwood, if you head towards fleetwood on the A585 from M55 Jct3, just before you get to Fleetwood turn left down Rossal Lane (see attached map) towards the A587 at the end of the lane turn right then left down Seal way towards the sea front. This road leads into fleetwood past the golf course and boating lakes, there are loads of carparks on the left (some set back from the road) where you can park, Ive also seen campers on the fields nearer the boating lakes and Tea hut. Further into Fleetwood past the pier you could park on the promenade near the lighthouse with a view straight across morecambe bay! Ive never camped here myself (I live locally) but Ive seen other people parked up when Ive been fishing. Theres also a couple of carparks further round before the docks but theres a nightclub near by so weekend camping might be a bit noisy. The other place mentioned above at Rossal is a good spot (good for fishing too!). If you choose your spot and go for somewhere tucked away I reckon you could pretty much park anywhere from Cleveleys to Fleetwood. .

Blackpool / Cleveleys Wild camping

We live a few hundred yards away from the spot on Cleveleys sea front (Little Bispham). I have seen as many as 30 vans overnighting there and can confirm that there is no trouble doing so. We have used it ourselves as a "test" for our new van!

One thing to watch out for though is that this road floods during very high tides! There are barriers at both ends of this stretch of road, which are used to close the road off. Anyone who is parked is asked to move, although I have seen cars that have been wrecked by being left.

If you really must stay in Blackpool the only place that regularly has several vans parked up and is free is in the road to the side of Solarium (Building with the Wind Turbines outside). The road to use is the one alongside the left (looking from the sea) of the building.

Directions for both.

Cleveleys/ Little Bispham: From Blackpool go along the prom northwards, after 4 miles you will pass a very large cream coloured hotel called the Norbreck Castle. 200 yards after this there is a left turn that crosses the tram tracks and takes you onto the "lower" prom. The best stop is the layby just round the corner although parking anywhere along here before the first right turn is fine.

Blackpool: Heading south along the prom from Blackpool go past the Pleasure Beach (rollercoaster) and after about 400 yards you will spot the Solarium building easily, as it has two large wind turbines outside. The road before it on the right is where many vans park (Harrowside way). Blackpool is terrible for getting parking tickets so be carefull if you park elsewhere! Also unfortunately motorhomes are unpopular with the hundreds of hotel owners so many will report you if they can......
