Good article - thanks Arthur.
I'm not one to normally praise councillors, but credit where credit is due - well done Blackpool.:cool1:
It is a step in the right direction and it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months and if any other councils follow the lead.

It is certainly a lot better than the attitude of some councils (eg Scarborough) but at £5 a night without any services it is worse value than a CL so to say, as the councillor does, that this is along the lines of the French aires system is going a bit far. Nonetheless, it is good to see positive comments about us for a change - especially that one about motorhomers bringing income into the town.

Does anyone know this car park? Seems like a good idea but then what do motorhomers get for their 5 quid. Does it have barriers to stop kids wheelying around in it at night?

Yes John, I agree about the £5 being a bit steep, but this is England............... Maybe once they've got going they may add some facilities and keep the fees the same.......(a lot of flying pigs going by).
On the subject of CLs - the £5 pn and less are disappearing faster than a politician spends expenses at the moment. I have spoken with a few CL owners who are a bit unhappy with the way the CC are advising them to add things and put their prices up.

It's good to be optimistic! :lol-053:
I agree that some CLs are charging ridiculous prices these days (the CC is not my favourite organisation!) but it is still possible to find many for £5 or less (and they, of course, provide fresh water and waste disposal facilities). With EHU, there are several that charge £7/8/9 pn - so £5 for an unguarded parking space is over the top in my view. I tend to compare everything against what you get by wilding - and the answer in this case looks like nothing. But I do accept that this is a positive step by the local council when compared to the actions of others.

I agree this is a step in the right direction. I don't mind paying £5.

I have posted this link on Swansea city council Face book page, It might give them ideas

Rob

What a good idea folks send it to all your local councils or councilers.

motorhome friendly

the car park behind the swimming pool at st annes is the one one of our members had trouble with mopeds and cars racing around at night.

there are no barriers as of yet to stop other people using the car park.

there are toilet facilities just up the road open through the day.

st annes is a very nice place to stay with cafes pubs and chipies also a tesco metro and a sainsburys

Thanks bevo. I agree St Annes is a very pleasant place also with rail access if needed. However £5 is steep for a car park with no barriers and not even the basic facilities like a tap and somewhere to dump your grey waste. That said I'll be around there in the next week or so and will probably try it out, and of course address any concerns to the local council in an appropriate way.

the £5 is to use the empty car park over night it's another £6 for day time parking

So, you pay £11 a day to park like sardines on a patch of tarmac, people coming and going all hours, with no water and no waste emptying or rubbish disposal.

I'm not exactly sure how this could be described as "welcoming"

I'd rather pay nothing to park on a patch of tarmac on a quiet street with no facilities, or pay £8 for a CL with hook up, water, quiet non sardine parking, and all the rest.

I'd hope the good members of this site could see straight through this rip-off in about 5 seconds flat!

We had to pay £6.50 to park a car for an evening in Leeds last week so £5 for overnight for a motorhome didn't sound so dear after that!

OK so it's not perfect but at least a step in the right direction. If only a few other LA's could make the effort to do something similar..

On the subject of cost compared to CL's it it the old 'location, location, location' and people will vote with their feet (wheels).

I would love to see just one Local Authority set up an 'exemplary' Aire and charge a fair amount to cover the cost. I gather Canterbury isn't bad?

Well done Blackpool for at least trying to resolve the issue, unlike the Scarborough 'head in the sand' approach.
