hi im new to this site would anyone have any suggestions on how to remove black streaks from my van .tried power washer but doesent seem to work

If your van has a coachbuilt body, do not use a power washer on it. It can damage the joints and cause dampness in the van.

For what it is worth, I use Mr Muscle and a damp cloth. Spray the affected area and wipe straight off. Use nothing that is an abrasive. I once got a tip off a forum for a bodywork cleaner but it was gritty and taking off the top layer of paint.

If you go to a garden centre or Wilkinson`s, get a fitting for your garden hose with an adjustable spray. The nozzle varies from closed, a fine mist and through to a good jet of water. It is strong enough to use without fear of damage to the bodywork.

black streaks seem to be one of the joys :D of ownership ha ha, but i found that keeping the roof clean helps a lot. i used to get lots of the dam things but after getting on the roof and getting all the crud off i have almost eliminated the problem

Thats a good tip :)
I've been using Tescos kitchen cleaner, similar stuff and it works a treat as well. Polish afterwards to seal the body and the black seems to be easy to wipe off next time around.

Mandrakes point is also very valid, keep the roof clean, its where the black stuff comes from, I think its diesel and other crap out of the air than settles on the roof :)

yes if you keep the roof clen it helps greatly, our van has a roof rack fitted so it is easy to get on the roof .just a tip if you do go up to the dizy hights crawl dont walk as this spreads your weight out as the van roof is not the most substantial thing in the world and keep clear of any joints

Hi Moobra
I use Thetford RV Cleaner. You can dilute it to make it go further, just spray on, wait a few seconds then rinse off. Works a treat. Removes squashed bugs as well.

I have spent a good deal of today (in between planting potatoes) cleaning the overcab and cab with 'T Cut'. I don't think it had ever been done since new, not something you want to do too often as your taking the paint off

But it looks 100% better. Its brought the fibreglass up a treat as well. When I can move again I need to put some decent polish on it and clean the rest of the van, its when your doing these jobs that you realise just how flippin big a Kontiki is, I'm bloody knackered,

When I'm rich I will have a couple of young ladies to do this for me.... ;)
