The Bip&Go tag now has a €6 off incentive for new applicants rather than the €4 one.

If anyone wants to get one please PM me you name and email address and I'll organise a link so you get the €6 off. I also get it too.

Highly recommended (y)

Plus, now the wife doesn`t have to hang out of the passenger window anymore on the peages to pay the tolls i don`t get anywhere near as much earache o_O

Yes Graham I agree. Half the time I used to have to jump out of the cab and run around to the other side to get the ticket/pay...causing much consternation for the motorists behind us! :D

Are they worth it for a very low user ?
As I rarely use the tolls, as apart from being from Yorkshire ( tight ) I like going the non toll roads,
Even in Brittany where the motorways are free I come off them and trundle through the villages and back roads,
As France is always full of surprises

It depends I guess. For us its essential as my wife struggles to use the machines. We visit go through France 3 times a year so will use the MWays although we do refer smaller roads as you say. The added bonus for us is Spain (where we go once a year) and Italy where we went this year and are going again next year.

Having done all of France several times over the years our favourite area by far is the Midi-Pyrenees so the easiest way down there is to use a combination of the free motorways and the péage with a few nice stopovers including some Chateau`s thrown in.

Similarly coming back so we can spend as long as possible down there we also use them coming back.

Each to their own but the Bip&Go has transformed our breaks in France and the stress ( and believe me there can be stress ) when all forms of payment, credit card, debit card, and cash fail on the péage has now completely gone as we glide through the 30KPH zone very often without even stopping.

It quite entertaining when you see a vehicle that stands out and is hell bent of beating you to the toll booths by taking some death defying manoeuvers or reversing out of a lane to get to another one before you get stuck in their lane at the barriers. as we smoothly glide through ours we a reasssuring ... bleep.

It can be several miles before they catch up and go hurtling past you at warp factors speeds within a foot or so of you to show their contempt 🤬 🤬

P.S.

Richard,

you only pay when you use them so after the initial purchase it fine even for a low user.

I'm on my second ATMB tag now as said just a small fee 1.70€ each month its used and we don't hesitate to use it Navigator set to allow tolls when you look out the window Your still seeing France and theres some really nice aires on toll roads for lunch stops pick the ones without fuel. I've had enough speed humps in French towns

They are the ones that we will even wait a while for before having a break, they are so peaceful and very often almost empty compared to the hustle and bustle of the larger ones with the shops, fuel. etc. etc.

Choose the ones with a sign like this which has just parking, picnic benches, shade and a small playground for the kids, some of them are even quite pretty.

We was amazing how many ( mainly French ) mtorhomes have started overnighting on the motorway/péage aires this year.

A few times we got going early to our next area and the quick brew enroute at say 8 - 9am almost always had motorhomes that had clearly spent the night there.

Always up for a free/cheap night I suspect Graham. Perhaps also a sign of the times with campsites getting more expensive to stay at?

Is there not an annual charge even if you haven't used it, I had SANEF before which did.

No annual charge here and it hasn`t cost us 1 penny ( or should that be cent ) whilst not being used.

P.S.

Graham, i think the incentive is back down to 4€ when i just had a look at my account.

Even at 4€ discount the cost for a new tag was only 16€ ( £13.10 ) delivered from France in 7 days when i got mine.

When you set it up you need the IBAN from your bank account, mine with the TSB went through fine and automatically paid the invoice earlier this year with no commission charges for euros although other banks differ i think.

One thing to bear in mind is that the invoice for the Spain usage took 2 months to come in but that went through no problem as well.

Also folks just to reiterate as well as the iBAN Wooie refers to, its worth checking if your bank does SEPA Direct Debits as not all do. First Direct do not but Lloyds do, for example...
