just caught the back end of the weather forcast ,and i belive it says freezing temps and snow for the end of this month :scared: if so its time to check that antifreeze and mabey the gas change . i wonder if the fuel companies are on the ball as there was a spate of freezing or waxing diesel last year with the early deep freeze we got ,dont the fuel companies add extra anti waxing addatives during the winter .never had much to do with diesel but this year i have a diesel car :rolleyes2:

Hi Mandrake,

Don,t know about a big freeze but the met office says;-

UK Outlook for Tuesday 4 Oct 2011 to Tuesday 18 Oct 2011:

Temperatures are expected to be around normal for the time of year across much of the UK by day, dropping below normal at night, especially across the Midlands and southeast, leading to an increased incidence of overnight frosts. The cooler conditions at night will be mitigated by day in some parts by sunnier than normal weather, with both the far south and far north of the country favoured to see above normal amounts of sunshine, with nearer normal sunshine hours elsewhere. Rainfall amounts are correspondingly likely to be a little below average in most areas, especially in the west.

I wouldn't put that sweater back in the drawer just yet, Mandrake - long-term forecasts are notoriously inaccurate. Anything more than 10 days ahead and you'd be just as well off tossing a coin!

Hi, Yep fuel companies put additive in from october 1st for road vehicles and october 15th for red diesel for farm use takes both down to -15` not allowing for wind chill factor.

last year both my diesels, a BMW and VW camper were fine starting.......

if anyone is worried, just pop in some petrol....its what the ruskies did in WW2

Dont forget to empty those water tanks then, if you do i have plenty of stainless steel tie rods :lol-053:

Well I wish it would come here getting fed up now sitting and fishing on the beach been 31deg here again Roll on the winter:lol-049::lol-049::lol-049::lol-049:

I'm prepared for the winter, after a weekend of tintent fettling!

I just installed a Propex Heatsource 2000 - it was dead easy to put in, the most difficult bits being finding a suitable location where the hole for the under-chassis inlet / exhaust pipes didn't foul anything important, and routing the 8mm copper pipe for the gas supply. All done in a few hours, and working fine.

I also installed a couple of 12" 60w tubular heaters, mains powered, to keep the frost / ice at bay when parked on the driveway.

I'm planning to change over from butane to propane when the current cylinder runs out.

:cool1:

With a screen name like mine, it would be odd if I did not post something. I have driven in minus 50F, in dense ice fog and in white out. We had to have engine block heaters just to start in the morning. And studded tyres. Those were extreme cold conditions. Fairbanks, Alaska, for 15 years. I miss the northern lights. However, our seemingly more moderate winters can be just as dangerous because it is actually more slippery when temps are nearer freezing. For the last two big snows, I was driving a little Smart Car which did amazingly well - not enough power to spin the wheels and light enough to pootle across and up most of what I had to cope with. We also spent one overnight in a pub car park in Somerset and saw minus 10C.

In 1944 the RAF Met Officer forecast a 48 hour break in the bad weather which enabled the D-Day landings to go ahead, now, with all of the sophisticated stuff they have, computers and satellites, etc., they can't give an accurate forecast, or the forecasts are so vague it leaves them in the clear, they remember Michael Fish and his "There's no hurricane on the way" forecast in Oct 1987, now they are reluctant to commit themselves.
